Yes the last year of the U21 championship a big shame to see one of our most popular and enjoyable grades to watch has now been scrapped for a diluted version competition.

Burn out bucks.
Anyway it's  the Rhu's title to lose.
Our 2014 minor team was quite poor, an untried manager, no budget so not expecting a lot.
Davy's given us a dream to cling to
We're going to bring home the SAM

This was the minor team that gave the reigning AI champs a run for their money in Castlebar in the Connacht final and nearly beat the AI finalists Donegal in the AIQF.

You do realise that underage teams don't  get to defend their titles as most of them are overage the following year.
We put 14 men behind the ball v Donegal to avoid a walloping.

U21 hurling championship kept. Sigerson college football more responsible for burn out and remains untouched.

We had a good minor squad in 2014. Should have beaten Mayo in Tuam.
That said our u21 manager for 2017 on all previous evidence of involvement with Galway underage teams is incompetent.

They made the AISFs losing to the eventual winners and still had a core of players from the last year like every minor team has. Poor is way OTT. Last year's minors could be classed as poor, but the 2014 team was pretty decent.

Galway should win the 2017 Connacht title. Mayo were extremely lucky to beat Galway in 2014 and Galways last two minor teams were the best in Connacht by some distance. Last two Mayo minors teams were poor and they have lost their best player from 2014 (Hanley)

Leitrim had a decent minor team in 2014 (won the minor league) got the short straw here though. It shouldn't come as any surprise if Sligo reach the final, they beat Roscommon in minor 2015 and got very close to beating them again this summer. Two of Roscommons best minors of 2014 was Luke Carty and Noel Gately. Carty has been lost to rugby and Gately injured his ACL twice.

18 of Mayo's squad from last year available again. Excellent management team. I'd be very hopeful.

Gately should be fit for the Hastings let alone the championship.

A better management than Galway could be Mayos trump card however Galway on paper will have more strength in depth than Mayo in 2017 and it must be remembered Mayos U21s were lucky to beat a injury hit Roscommon this April.

Very few players have recovered fully for two ACL injuries.

Sligo will have our strongest u21 side in many years this year. 2014 and 15 we had good minor sides. Will be very interesting to see how we get on.

Blowitupref
