We are still 2 points behind city and maybe more importantly 16 points ahead of United.

Randolph isn't great but is the best we have in goals for now. I have high hopes for Gavin Bazunu of Shamrock Rovers who will be joining Man City after he completes his leaving cert in the summer. He is only 16 and has aready starred in the league of Ireland.

We had the rub of the green in that draw. The north must be sick.

Although it is the only song to be uk christmas number 1 twice by the same artist. I don't consider Bohemian Rhapsody to be a christmas song.

Fairytale of New York has to be in my top 3. I don't really know what the other 2 would be.

The Irish under 21s have never done well. Any good players they might have had usually graduate straight to senior level after under 18s.

Delaney is some gobshite.

Mick should have the job with no ridiculous arbitrary time limits imposed on him.

This is a stroke to appease the perpetually moaning, always unhappy League of Ireland set.

I think Mick could well pull out altogether now - he's being shafted before he has even been appointed.

And you know how these talks went? Ffs there are some balloons on here, for all you know that was the agreement that they (Stephen and Mick) wanted. Mick not shy on speaking out so you’ll hear from him on this contract, so until then speculating is silly
Says one of the biggest balloons of all here.

Even if McCarthy is on board with it (1.2 million a year might help in that regard) the situation is a dog's dinner.

You don't impose arbitrary time limits on a manager before they've even begun, regardless of whether they have success or not.

Imposing such is a recipe for failure and it doesn't help the successor either.

But if Mick qualifies and does well in the Euros, why the hell should we then ditch him for the World Cup?

And replace them with a bloody League of Ireland manager?

Why would you want to do that?

We tried it once before and it was a disaster.

Yeah thought that myself. If the team is gelling and playing well, riding high, why would you risk that?
And not only that, what if Kenny is a disaster with the U21s,how do you give him the senior job?

Surely the best thing to do was give Kenny the senior job for the euros and if it works out well then keep him on for the more important world cup qualifying. If he flopped at the euros then you could look elsewhere.

The kids are too young imho. Hold off at least a couple of years.

So Stephen Kenny is to replace Mick McCarthy after the 2 year contract expires according to the rte rugby commentator.

It looks like it is confirmed, McCarthy is back according to the RTE web site. It looks like he was lined up before O'Neill was out the door. I would have preferred if they had taken their time with the selection process and interviewed some high profile candidates before selecting whoever they wanted. But it looks like money was a key consideration in selecting McCarthy.

I like him and I wish him the best but heading into the qualifying for the last successful world cup qualifying he had Roy Keane, Damien Duff, Robbie Keane, Richard Dunne, Shay Given, Steve Staunton, and other premier league players. He will have nothing like that in his next qualifying campaign.

Robin Hood. seven out of ten. Entertaining enough.

They obviously filmed it in Italy or Croatia or somewhere other than the north of England where Robin is from. It also looked like some of the costumes were sourced in top shop. Nottingham also had a lot of black people in those days which I never knew, I thought it was all white in the old days. There must also have been a lot of Irish immigration into the area in those days going by the accents of 2 of the movies leading characters. This film also featured the over the shoulder bazooka that fired arrows in the crusades. I know Robin Hood is a legend but I did expect a bit of historical accuracy.

But Alex Smith is a failed number 1 pick in the draft. He is no Tom Brady or hall of famer. Mahomes is no doubt better than Smith but he still has to prove himself against the likes of Brees, Brady and Rodgers.

Wow! Hard to believe.  Some going.  What's the thoughts on these two teams? Obviously amazing on offence but will they come a cropper in the play-offs?

They will both be there or thereabout. Rams and Saints are the cream of the NFC. Steelers/Pats/Chiefs in the AFC

If Kansas can hold onto number 1 they'll be dangerous. They have to overcome Andy Reiditis in the playoffs, but that will be easier at Arrowhead.

In fairness to Andy Reid i don't think he has ever had a QB as good as Mahommes. I think they're the front runner in AFC. So much depends on staying healthy from here on in but i'd still have them as slight superbowl favourites even after last nights defeat.

Did Donovan McNabb ever have weapons like Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Kareem Hunt and Sammy Watkins? QB production is a function of several things, only one of which is ability. Mahomes is doing really well but he has only played 11 games in the NFL.....lets not send him to Canton already.

TO and Brian Westbrook were pretty decent but yes, i'd agree that Mahommes has a better supporting cast than McNabb probably ever had (and possibly the best in the league at the moment). But Alex Smith had the same cast last year (substituting Albert Wilson for Sammy Watkins) and Mahommes is way outperforming what Smith did. My point wasn't really on Mahommes per se but more a word in defence of Andy Reid. Every QB he has worked with has looked better under him than in any other stop along their career. Michael Vick, McNabb, Alex Smith (minus one year he was excellent under Harbaugh), may be even Kevin Kolb.

At least O Neill got Obafemi capped. That should be the standard operating procedure for all dual internationally qualified players in the future.

It was a great performance from Ireland. Keeping the all blacks from scoring a try in a winning effort is some achievement.

We have some squad of players at this stage with real strength in depth at all positions with the possible exception of winger. If he is still playing well I would take Zebo to the world cup. There is no harm done in breaking that self imposed rule with a world cup on the line.
