Tyrone won that by 10 points without a conventional FF line at all. Truely astonishing result.

I would say that's JP's last appearance in a county jersey, and it's a great shame if he goes out like that. We're out again in a week and the way things are going we'd be doing well to trouble those qualifier teams coming through. JP's injury looked like a reoccurance of his knee problem which has troubled him for a while, and as I said before I think this would be his last year for the county.

On the game, well what can you say? Absolute disaster for Monaghan, every possible thing that could go wrong did. We made silly mistakes from beginning to end, players were slipping all over the place, taking the wrong option the majority of times, and so on. As the game wore on we struggled to break down Tyrone and work it into their third of the pitch, the wrong ball was going in time after time but the forwards weren't making runs and looking for it(although this was also the case for most of the game). Tyrone just suffocated us and squeezed the life out of us, it was impossible to claw our way back into the game. We just had no answer for it and as the game went into it's final stages Tyrone added the extra few scores to put gloss on the scoreline. Disasterous also from the point of view of the injuries picked up. As I say JP's didn't look good, Duffy seemed to hurt his leg again in a late kick-out and Hughes also looked to go over on his ankle but played on. Doubtful if Vinny will be back in time by the looks of it, there's alot to worry about with the next game in just a week. We will have our work cut out for us against any of the four teams at this rate, but knowing our luck I'm expecting Cork away.

Size, strength and physical power the big difference between the teams. Sligo unable to break the tackles. They'll run out of puff labouring against bigger men. They look in trouble to me.

Nolan did not have a great game. Average. And Cullen was one of the reasons we won. His tracking and covering at wing forward was absolutely brilliant. Its taken the management the guts of 2 years to make a decision to play him at WF. that was a question that and Dublin fan could haveanswered during the commercial break for Coronation Street.

The full back line only had to mark two men!! Course they looked great.

I thought Mc Auley was great. Love the way he physically imposes himself. Great bit of stuff.

But I totally agree he's a wing forward, and should be one of the first names on the teamsheet as he's way ahead of Flynn and Corkery. He worked really hard, forced a couple of turnovers, but only Fitzsimons for Dublin had less touches of the ball (for lads who played all/most of the game.) Maybe I'm being too harsh (probably am) or expecting too much but I believe there's more to come from Bryan. He's a good passer and a very good man to take a score, and he didnt get the opportunity to show that side of his game.

Not sure what your problem is with Nolan. Hoovered up lots of breaking ball, used it really well and also got some good tackles in. Missed a chance for a score alright but still IMO was probably our best half back on the day. Well done to him.

Superb minor as I'm sure you know Indy - injuries over the last couple of years seem to have taken their toll - I hope he can fulfill his undoubted potential but I have my doubts.

If we get anyone other than Monaghan, the balance of the team up front will have to change the next day as I'd expect to see B Brogan doubled up the next day and there aren't enough other score takers up front

Dont know if Monaghan can recover from that today tbh. Would expect Dublin to beat them easily.

As ever Eugene McGee is the sharpest knife in the drawer in his colum in the Indo today.  He also makes the point - while clearly condeming the assults - what was Sludden up to hanging around taking the names of Louth players who were telling him what a bolix he is. 
Also in the general hoha Sluddens 'previous' has been ignored and you have to ask what halfwit is responsible for letting him officiate at this level?  He has always been a disaster waiting to happen.

But that's the problem here mackiernan. I agree the circumstances were different, but it's subjective opinion rather than factual. How do we know England wouldn't have gone on to win. I agree, but hard cases make bad laws, so it's hard to say if one decision merits a replay over another, in the laws.

I agree with what you are saying, but it's hard to legislate effectively for instances like this. You have to have a level of 'gut feel', and that doesn't translate into laws and rules. I think in this case the GAA is depending on Meath to get them out of a rut by offering a replay.
