Referee dies during match

Well known Down club ref Mickey Cole collapsed and died during a Div 2 Football match tonight. Mickey was Mayor of Newry up until last week and was a member of the An Riocht club in Kilkeel, Co Down. At referees meetings he was always quick to make his views known. A great lad in so many ways.

unbelievable news, the word filtered through to Burren with about five minutes left of tonights game.. the ground was very subdued afterwards.. it put everything into perspective.. mickey was a great character who never liked blowing his whistle during  games.. he always liked to share a joke during matches even when he was being called everything... he will be sadly missed in Down Gaa circles
