stew, I know for an absolute fact that religious orders and diocesan people responsible for recruiting men to the priesthood have been screening people within an inch of their lives via the RUC/PSNI/Gardai for at least 15 years.  That includes psychological interviews and tests along with prolonged interviews with trained counsellors as well as priests

That doesn't mean that the security checks with cops will pick up on all paedophiles, as those checks only pick up known ones

Even if the Church screened out all paedophiles, you still have morally depraved people in the church including Bishops, Cardinals and Popes who believe it is ok to cover up the sexual abuse of a child to protect their beloved church. Criminal and Cardinal are not too far apart in the dictionary. They are well matched. If the pope ever sets foot on this island, I hope the guards will show some balls and arrest the canonized you know what.

Norn Iron's group will be a contender for worst 2nd place team too once the 6 points all the teams scored against San Marino are removed.

To acquire US Citizenship, you do have to renounce allegiance to any foreign crown or state. You don't lose your Irish passport, and the Irish gov still recognizes you as a citizen. But you have still taken an oath that renounces your Irish citizenship. I'm sure many invoke the spirit of Dev and issue a "Hollow Oath". But I'd say any such oath would be a step too far for many Irishmen.

Kerry 2-9 Ros 1-12

Last kick goal for Ros (sound well deserved) and looks like extra time.

Do not think the GAA is too bothered about the holdup. With Dublin winning Leinster, they were never going to be able to hold 2 doubleheaders on Bank Holiday weekend. Dubs will fill Croker on their own and they'll need one day alone for that. I'd say then a doubleheader and then depending on who emerges from the losing provincial finalist v (Meath v Wex/Ros) could up being played anywhere depending on who they draw.

Teams that dish out an unmerciful hammering usually finds that it comes back to haunt them. It is better to take the foot off the pedal when you are seven or eight points up and let the game die it's natural death, as it will. Run out easy winners by all means, but no need to rub some extra salt into the wounds. The team that is on the receiving end of a mighty drubbing never forget the humiliation and live for the day when they can exact revenge. When Clare footballers finally won a Munster championship, they invoked that terrible battering at the hands of the Kerrymen.  Even if it seems unlikely that a weak footballing or hurling county will ever be in the position to right the wrong, or take an eye for an eye, someone else will come along and soften their cough, there's always a bigger fish as the man said. And many times it is the humiliated county who rise again to fell the hated bastards who bate them by twenty five points. There's wise sages in several counties around Ireland who have savoured thrashing their auld enemies but when they went for a drink at night, couldn't enjoy it. Dark voices in their heads, "MacBeth has murdered sleep, MacBeth shall sleep no more" kind of stuff. Nature is strange like that, it always balances itself out. The Greeks had a word for it but I can't remember it.

GAA Discussion / Re: Connacht 25

Connacht in the last twenty five years has only produced four lets call them attacking players who I would say were fit to grace the great Kerry team of 1975 to 1986. They in my humble opinion were Michael Donnellan, Kieran McDonald, Tony McManus and Padraic Joyce. Does not mean they would have made that team if they were fortunate enough to be Kerryman, but they were all skillful enough. Ask yourself if it came down to it John Egan or any of the above quartret. Those who know your football will know the answer.

Mars bars that are passed their sell by date. Just remembering to check the date after you've savaged it down is the annoying part.

GAA Discussion / Re: GAA live on Setanta in US?

They have switched the goalposts for those living in the US. They should have told us when we renewed our annual subscription that GAA games would not be live. They can't have it both ways - expect us to pay for the annual subscription to see only delayed coverage and have to pay $20 to get into the pub every weekend morning. That's if there's a pub nearby in the first place. They are quick to show Liverpool games live. GAA should allow only RTE.ie show games outside Ireland if this is the carry on.

What live GAA games are scheduled on Setanta-I. They had not shown any live yet and they emailed to say they would not be showing live GAAs until Qtr finals on.

From what I hear they are only showing live games on broadband from qtr final on. Rest of the games will be showed delayed (usually on a Tuesday). They really screw GAA fans. I've subscribed to their broadband and their cable channel specifically for GAA (about $300 per year) and all I am treated to is a diet of rubbish English soccer. To see live GAA you have to pay $20 at the pub door.

Jersey Creams. Rich tea great for dipping and usually don't fall in on you so long as you don't dangle it too long.
