I went to one of the Hobbit shows on my own when it came out. Had 3 kids under 4 at home and the 3.5hrs of peace was like therapy ;D
Sure you don't even have to go ask for a single ticket now

Quote from: lurganblue on November 21, 2023, 02:01:06 PMThe Marvels wasn't as bad I expected it to be. Nowhere near Thor: Love and Thunder levels of sh*t.  In fact it was ok.

I went to the Maxx to see it.  I counted 10 people in such a huge cinema. If that's a reflection of it's sales then it cant be doing well.

Same when I took my son in NYC two weeks ago. I believe that chain only has an odd showing now, just two weeks after opening.

I thought it was enjoyable, especially that young Pakistani-American character who was brilliantly played. Ending was a bit weak, but overall it was much better than some of the stuff Marvel have been putting out the past few years, Guardians excepted (the Black Panther sequel was promising but way too long).

From what I've seen, a lot of the backlash against this particular movie is down to misogyny and an irrational dislike of Brie Larson for some reason.

Went to see Napoleon. First time in the cinema for about 40 years, and I really enjoyed it.

I would recommend it, but better if you go in with a little knowledge of Robisphere, the Directory, Tallyrand etc.

The battle of Austerlitz looked a bit simplified, but then it probably needed cut the battles would be made the film 5 hours.

Actually, I would watch it a second time.

Keep us posted. It could be another of these ones that critic's love and Joe Public isn't fussed on.

I'd like to see it in the cinema but....

There's absolutely no way I could convince her to go.
Go on your own?

I've just convinced her.. but it's the Avenue in Belfast with food and drinks.. so be a few quid!!

Well worth it. If I can get a babysitter that's a Sunday afternoon date!
Is that place good? I just picture  that the seats are a bit manky after being open a while.

No, was pretty clean and we were happy with it. Service good but not cheap

I loved the Avenue for a one off. Wouldn't go there everytime I wanted to see a film but would definitely go back for a big movie release. I went to see Napoleon and thought it was good. Can't see it making the all time great list but I am definitely glad I went to see it.

Milltown Row2

Yes,  went went Sunday night splurged out and had a decent 'date' night food was decent considering.

Nothing manky either, as for the film Napoleon, decent enough and a live story to keep her happy, it went by quick enough.

Size proportion done very well as I'd say Phoenix is nearly 5"9?

Headed to Maddens for a swifty at the end!

I went to see Napoleon last night myself. Overall I enjoyed it.  There are some very good scenes and I actually enjoyed the battle of Austerlitz.  I had to go and google the battle again when I got home as I don't remember reading that it was all in the snow.  A bit of artistic license there.

As expected though, it came across as a bit of an overview at times.  As it tried to skim through so much, I felt that apart from Napoleon and Josephine the characters lacked any depth. That was always going to be very difficult. His life would be more suited to a long running series.

Yeah, for a film that was over two and a half hours, it still lacked depth on things, it did require the romance to keep the other half from falling asleep. But agreed, there is so much during that period that was skimmed over that it probably needs a series to get that depth out there

But I also enjoyed it too and the time went by quick enough

Watched When Evil Lurks the other night.  Effective little horror movie from Argentina.  Reminded me of a long episode of Hammer House of Horror from the 80s.

The Creator was visually amazing, was very good but could have been better. 7 out of 10.

The Killer, expected more, bit like a film version of Dexter, only assassin instead of forensics expert. 6 out of 10.

The Whale, better than expected. 7 out of 10.

The killer was the biggest pile of balls ever I watched. I didn't have a clue what was going on.
