Beating Tyrone AND Mayo in the one year would be pretty sweet alright. Stoke up the bitterness a bit more.

No worries of Bitterness in Mayo or Tyrone when we see how average Meath have become over the last 7 years.

Ian Ryan of Limerick has said he's not interested in joining the AFL. From gaa.ie.

Limerick teenage prodigy Ian Ryan will not be joining AFL side Essendon, the player confirmed on Thursday.

Reports in various media during the week had suggested that the 19-year-old was on the verge of signing an international rookie contract with the AFL giants.

The teenager burst into the public consiciousness with a series of brilliant displays in the Limerick inside forward line this summer, the high-point of which was his personal haul of 3-7 against Meath in the qualifiers.

However, Ryan insists that his future remains in Gaelic football after his return from a two-week trial with the Melbourne side.

"It was a temendous experience being involved in a full-time set-up for two weeks and Essendon couldn't have treated me bettter," said Ryan.

"But after giving the matter a lot of thought, I've decided that I'd prefer to playing Gaelic football rather than making the change to Aussie Rules which has many stoppages for marks when players catch the ball cleanly."

"As well, I've come to the comclusion that Gaelic football is more of a hobby rather than something I'd like to be involved in full-time, if it were possible. So the full-time element of Aussie Rules wouldn't be a plus for me."

lads, big issue over nothing,its no big deal in my opinion.the gaa loses far far more players to soccer and rugby than they ever will to aussie rules.this man nixon is trying his best and who can blame him but at the end of the day,there are very few lads who would up and leave family,friends and the gaa to go the other end of the world to perhaps make abita money.very few make it and those that do will be on decent enough money,but its not massive money (only a few of the massive stars over there are making more than 100grand a year) so if the young lad has any propects here in ireland he'l probably stay. and if he doesnt have any prospects then he'l probably and thats great because the gaa has provided a young lad with no prospects otherwise a gateway to a good life,that what its all about really.

ps i no for a fact that alot of the lads that went down to the camp have absolutley no intention of going anywhere near aussie land but only went for no1 the craic no2 to say they were down and no3 cos they got a load of free gear (may aswell take everything we can off the chaeting aussie b*****d's! )

It's no coincidence that the Collingwood recruitment manager came out with that comment about all the emails he was getting from intercounty players. They are trying to create the illusion that hordes of young lads are falling over themselves to get to the AFL. That way, when a youngster is in 2 minds he'll think, "Well all these other lads want to go too."

Martin Clarke is the best minor footballer i have seen in a long long time. bar none, Donie Kingston included. Did Donie give his new house back by the way

In fairness though, there are a vast amount of minor footballers you never got to see in the flesh. Just like the rest of us. I remember watching Beano McDonald in his 3rd year as a minor tearing Meath apart in Croke Park. He was absolutely devastating. He's retired now.
