Ambrose.

A simple "actually, Klopp does have a history of paying world record fees for mature players who will slot straight into the first team" would have sufficed.

Or you can keep reversing over a carcass if you like.

But it's already dead.

Up to you.

When you call someone's post nonsense, don't expect to get a response you like!
That's just, like your opinion man.

Klopp doesn't buy world class players like Mbappe, instead he transforms already good players into world class players. Mbappe would command a fee of €300m, Liverpool don't need to spend anything like that on one player.

It's somewhere between odd and galling to read nonsense like this. He paid world record transfer fees for a goalkeeper and a defender. So he will happily buy the "finished article" when the opportunity is presented.

——

Mbappe reportedly earns £375-400k a week at PSG, or roughly twice as much as the current highest earner at Liverpool.

Presuming he won't move for anything less than a trivial pay cut, he would therefore have to utterly decimate the pay structures.

A problem for any club. But for Scouse, where every regular player apart from TAA and Lopez is aged 25+, and therefore in the market for a huge pay demand - the one that sets them up for life -  on their next contract offer, this is either financial suicide, or else the destruction of the squad.

VVD and Allison were both world record transfer fees but does that mean they were world class?

Many a fan ridiculed the fee paid for VVD at the time and still to this day argue other players are better.

Allison has one good season at Roma, was his name bandied around as one of the best in the world at this time?

You're talking absolute rubbish wobbler.

The general consensus when van dyke was bought from Southampton was not that he was a world class player, rather Liverpool were widely questioned for paying such a large fee for him. I believe Klopp has played a key role in van dyke becoming one of the best (if not the best)central defenders in the world.

At this moment in time I'd consider both Liverpool's starting full backs, Fabinho and the front three to all be world class. I don't think any of them would have been considered to be world class prior to working under Klopp. He quite clearly has the ability to get the very best out of players. There are many more examples in Liverpool's squad of Klopp having improved a player with potential than there are of him having dug into the wallet to buy a "finished article".

Look.

Klopp is clearly a fantastic coach. Almost every player he has worked with at Liverpool has improved tactically and technically. I have only genuine respect for this.

Klopp is clearly an outstanding motivator and leader. This rings so clearly when you recall the regularity of late victories the past two years, and by viewing just how willing and ready squad players are when they're called on to do a job.

And Liverpool's transfer policy - let's call it a derivation of moneyball - is clearly suited to and is reaping dividends from having Klopp at the helm.

Anybody willing to argue those points has either an agenda, or an attention disorder.

But at the same time, the inference / belief that Liverpool are achieving this solely by polishing hidden gems is bewildering. The ability to do this is intrinsic to their strategy, but two of the most important decisions made to shore up a defence that had a tendency to give opponents a chance, was to spend a world record fee on a defender, and a world record fee on a goalkeeper, both of whom went straight into the first team before the ink dried.

Whether they were unanimously perceived as world-class isn't as relevant. Whether they've subsequently improved as players under Klopp isn't as relevant. For they weren't bought as part of a medium term plan, they were bought to complete the puzzle as quickly as humanly possible. That's surely the definition of buying the finished article. It's not the club strategy, but is definitely a part of the strategy, when the numbers add up.

Fair play to Shrewsbury, they deserve their replay at Anfield. Will be the highlight of a lot of those players careers.
Proper cup tie that. Love seeing the fans on the pitch at the end.
Could have done without the extra game but I'm sure it will just be the reserves and younglads out again.
Imagine Shrewsbury gave us a better game than a full strength Everton team  ;D
When you think you're fucked you're only about 40% fucked.

Lucky to be still in it!

A draw is not the end of the world.

Fair dues to Shrwwsbury, at 2-0 down to the terrible own goal I though they were gone!

Anyway we are still in the Cup and most of our youngsters will get another day out!

The game was a god send for the BBC as well!

Geoff Tipps

Barely deserved the draw. Awful performance

Replay during our 12 week break, not ideal but the players returning from injury today were awful so maybe another game to get them up to speed is not the worst thing in the world.

Well done to Shrewsbury who fully deserved the draw and the replay

Jurgen Klopp says that no senior players will be involved in the FA Cup fourth round replay and he won't manage the team. Neil Critchley will be in charge #LFC
