Engrenages (Spirals) series four starts on Saturday night on BBC4 - have been waiting ages for this!
That's great news  and there's more good news, 12 episodes @ 55 minutes each episode, BBC4 will have 2 episodes back to back for 6 weeks.
It's going to be a long week in between. ;D

Have they shown the previous three series on BBC ?

Does the Mrs know you are watching soft porn?
When you think you're fucked you're only about 40% fucked.

They have, but I think it goes back as far as 2006 or 2007.

Yes they have and  those 3 series that were shown on BBC are available as hdtv rips on torrent sites, etc.
You don't need to have watched the earlier series in order to follow what's happening in the 4th.
Some plots do follow on, but each series is entirely valid on its own.

Sure, but the characters are an important part of it (for me anyway) and I think it would lose something if you didn't have the history in your head.

Perhaps, but would you lose more or less than a Longford GAA man who had no notion of his county's history?

Yeah there's been three.
Yip, but this new one is officially Season 3 (War of the Damned).

But in between Season 1 (Blood and Sand) and Season 2 (Vengeance), while the main star was ill (and subsequently died) they did another mini series (Gods of the Arena) which was a prequel to Season 1.

They made Gods of the Arena as the prequel.

I'm looking forward to the new series. I'm glad they're bringing it all to a conclusion though.
