GAA Discussion / Re: Who are the team of the decade?

What are we trying to find out here? Can some one be clear on the question please?

Are we looking for the team of the decade as you would look for a man of the match? For example the man of the match might not score any points? He might just drive the team to levels above their expectancy. There would be no official record on paper saying the player achieved X Y and Z but everyone would know he was the MOTM.

Or are we looking for the team of the decade as in those with the most medals? For example the person who scores the most in a game ending with his team winning the match and having the solid proof of his contribution on the scoreboard?

I think there are two different questions being answered here.

I agree. There are so many ways of looking at this. First you could say its Kerry because they won more. Second you could say its Tyrone because they beat Kerry 3 times. However its not as simple as that, because the Tyrone team of 2003 was different to that of 2008. You could say that the Kerry team of 2006 were really great as they hammered Mayo and could also say that the Armagh team of 2002 was the best. Its all pretty subjective.

Jesus man, with my eyesight I can hardly see the shirt never mind make out whose it is. But I've accepted my mistake so can you not leave it at that and in any case can you not graciously accept that my comments were made in defence of your county.

Dougal M inhabits some strange universe where the understanding of the meaning of irony has been lost forever.

"My view on the Tyrone team is that this has to be their finest hour. The 2003 win was steeped in controversy  - the diving, Marsden sending off ( I still detest Philip Jordan and will to my dying day) Mind you whilst they stole that AI they were also soundly robbed in 1995 so what comes around goes around, its just a pity it had to be at Armagh's expense. 2005 wasn't pretty but it was great to see them put one over Kerry. 2008 was just class amd apart from Jordan, who i hate, and Mulligan, who's a tosser, I'm delighted for them, particularly Dooher who is now a class act and nothing like what he was like in 2003 when he would have fallen over had you even looked at him! And Mickey Harte, what can you say about the guy. He's certainly proved that nice guys can make it to the top, if there's any justice he'll win the RTE Person of the Year award. He's just a fantastic role model for everyone.

P.S. To the guy who made the disparaging comments about Monaghan, i think that was out of order and while it might have been said in jest you should remove the post. The people of Monaghan have always given you a great reception and don't deserve comments like that."

No, I live in this universe, however there was nothing in that post to indicate to me that you were from Monaghan. Now that you've set the record straight I withdraw my comment.

Anyone see Dooher in Aughnacloy on UTV on six news?
"What the f**k are ye saying, i can't hear ye" he said back to Logie when the music was drowing out his question.
I don't like Logie but that's down right ignorant.  :-\

It was his first question, I'm not so sure he even knew the interview had started, let alone that it was going out live.
He still said it to someone.
I think you're being very unfair to Dooher there Pints. As I recall Oisin McConville used the f work during an on field interview after the 2002 Final, and he knew the camera was on him!

Great moment indeed from Dooher. He seems a nice guy. Mulligan, on the other hand, acted like a hyperactive p***k over on BBC when Austin O'Callaghan was interviewing Mickey Harte ( another great guy). He insisted on trying to drown Harte out with one of those air horns.

If Tyrone do win will they be the first team to win the All Ireland despite having failed to win 2 matches on the way

Eh? Are Kerry not in the same boat?

I stand corrected

The same reason people says "So I did" and "so it was" - because they're thick!

That must be the sweeping statement to end all sweeping statements

There is an easy option then, tune into something else, do you really think the users of this board are the deomographic the BBC are aiming their afternoon schedule at?  Hugo Duncan is widely recognised as adding many listeners to his programme and unlike the false Geroge Jones is actually a great person to know.  I cannot understand why you would be listening to it in the first place, unless you are 40+.  So stop complaining and tune into Radio 2, great presenters (Jeremy Vine, Steve Wright, Chris Evans et al)

I'm not disputing Hugo is a great person to know but he's a bollix on the radio. I agree Steve Wright is excellent but Kyle and Evans are not my cup of tea
