Title: Newbridge pitch for Kildare matches
Post by: seafoid on December 20, 2012, 09:17:30 AM

"Kildare must now convince the health and safety audit committee that a reduced capacity at St Conleth's Park in Newbridge is capable of staging Allianz national league fixtures. The committee meets this week to sign off, or reject, all county grounds ahead of 2012.

Ongoing work at St Conleth's must be completed in time for Kerry's visit on March 3rd.

The ground's capacity has been reduced to 6,000, which the Kildare board agreed would not be enough to facilitate the Dublin match or Donegal on February 2nd , which is now a Croke Park double header with Dublin versus Cork.

"At the moment we have no home venue," said a Kildare GAA county board spokesperson yesterday. "The whole ground needs renovation from the turnstiles to toilets to the stands. The emphasis is on everything." Will it be ready in time? "Yes and no . . . I wouldn't think so.""

One of the many tragedies of the bubble madness. How much do Kildare need to bring it up to standard?

I saw plans on here a while ago for Kidare's new ground, any updates on this?

Do they not need a couple of thousand plastic chairs as well as the paint ?

It's dead in the water. It was to be funded by the sale of the current grounds and that's obviously not going to happen now.

Our only hope is if it's bankrolled by our great supporters and patrons, the Al Maktoum family.

I'm sure Geezer is sizing up young Seanie Al Maktoun for a place in the squad as we speak.

The tiger isn't coming back any time soon. Presumably Kildare won't be swimming in cash either for a while so a tiger style redevelopment must be out of the question.
How much would the county need for a medium term solution ?

A reduced newbridge couldn't be a runner in my opinion as they'd never fit Sean Johnston's ego into it. I suggest maybe croke park or nou camp as the only alternative.

It's still shocking that a county the size of Kildare hasn't got a ground capable of staging National League games after 125 years.

Work ongoing for the new stand in Newbridge. 3,000 seats is very modest in an overall development of €17.5 million.
I'm sure the prawn sandwiches will be nice though.

Modest enough development for such a big county.

Just wondering if it is costing €17.5 million for that stand or is there any other work going on? Seems a bit steep to me if that is all that the money is paying for. You'd need to be well back in that stand on a wet day or you will get soaked.

At the rate they are going, they need a new pitch too.

When completed St Conleth's Park will have a 15,000 capacity with the complete demolition of the existing stand and dressing room block to be replaced by a new entrance plaza, a new 3000-seat stand which will have dressing rooms, officials' changing rooms, a Club Kildare Lounge, multi-purpose rooms and shops.

"Kildare already has significant funds in place, thought to be around €2m, having enjoyed healthy surpluses in recent years while there is also a State Large Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF) grant of €4.875m in place for the last three years.

A €4m contribution from the Government's Immigrant Investor Programme, now closed to new applicants, will also be used.

Contributions from Croke Park and Leinster Council will be in the region of €3.6m with the balance coming from bank loans and a potential naming rights agreement."

Kildare are the most Spursy football county. Last win ages ago in 1928. Money, flaky, psychology issues, white jerseys.

But a swanky new stadium is also Spursy . Maybe will inspire them for the centenary in 2028.
