There are very few examples, certainly in modern day football, of the same man managing and coaching a team. I've never come across it too often in club football. It would be a poor decision from a club to let one man do both roles. Two very different roles and I haven't seen many men who are good at both.

Is Pascal Canavan involved with any team?
Armagh Harps

Not for much longer I would say.

Pains me to say in-laws are  Tyrone... From a Junior Club who can't get out of Div 3, bottom of the Tyrone barrell

I've seen them play a load and they would be top half Div 1 in Antrim.

Full of Hogan Cup winners, pace and doggedness, boys with maybe limited sporting ability who are just hardy and brute ignorant and  wouldn't let a man go past them. We let men waltz up the middle  (look at Armagh senior game) and score in a way they never would accept

We might get the odd 'I'll knack yer ballix in" slabber hit a Judas,  cowardly dig from behind your back in an Antrim league game but about as hard as fcuk-all in comparison to the boys above, not worth a f**k

They have a depth in that County we could only dream of matching

The sport is the County's Culture, its who they are and their teams are how they pride themselves. We just don't have that.

Like nearly every non GAA playing girl in their county would nearly know who they are playing that weekend and not have a bad word said about their county......that level of passion filters down to each child and they all want to play for their county.

She's 2 cousins who started and won underage all irelands in last year who can't make full Tyrone Senior squad.....they would both start for and massively improve Antrim Seniors.

The levels are just night and day

Interviewing Henry Sheeflin and  fawning over and clapping his achievements won't change that, it might get us some money, which all Counties need to keep operating

Realistically Leitrim won't win an All Ireland in 10 or 20 years and neither will Carlow and neither will we. We can keep trying but our ceiling will never be that high. Unless schools all start competing in McCrory etc that won't change. Clubs too, demanding more of players,  coaches who know the sport and coach with a higher level in mind

Other Counties like Tyrone, now with Ballygawley, Donaghmore  and Carrickmore in McCrory are massively widening the gap
No they wouldn't

Spot on. If you can't get out of D3 in Tyrone then there's no way you'd be sit comfortably mid D1 in Antrim.

The quality is better across all 3 divisions in Tyrone but not a lot. The main difference is the gap between the top teams and lower teams is much smaller leading to many more competitive games and a bigger battle to get out of that league.

Some clubs in Tyrone will actually have a longer preseason than a playing season. Madness.

Why are we annoyed with these men leaving? We don't play a game based on scoring forwards. There are 3 places up for grabs. Darragh, ruairi and mcurry/ mcshane.  Our half forward line in last year's championship were all half backs essentially.  We are a defense minded team running the ball from deep. Meyler and Mc Geary are class workers and tacklers but what scoring threat do they posess - point or two a game. Compare that to Dublin Kerry and Mayo.

Is he really? The only way McGeary would be classed as a good tackler was if the aim of tackling was to foul.

Well done to both teams, brilliant outings.
Will be cheering yous on next Sunday like you were my own, against the farcical club structures in Kerry.
8 senior clubs, resulting in Rathmore being essentially the 9th best team in Kerry. This is what Galbally are tasked with.
Then we have the Clifford's playing junior football even though they won the senior championship 2 months ago?
Aye no bother. Good luck men wishing yous nothing but success next week.

What's farcical about the Cliffords playing junior football with their club?

the u20 competition is turning into a farce

good appointment with Mickey Donnelly coming in, I am excited as a Down supporter for the coming year. We have the right men in our set ups and we have a lot to look forward to.
Lavo, Marty, Donnelly, Benny, Darren and Donal know what it takes o be a county player.

Describe how it is a good appointment? You must not venture further than those local cafes you get your misinformation from. Donnelly was with Tyrone club Ardboe for 3 seasons and couldn't even win one senior championship match. He cost the club a lot of money along with his in-house backroom team who were also getting paid, Ardboe relieved to get rid of them all. I wouldn't be getting too excited, he was at least the sixth man approached and took a lot of convincing.

Mickey got Ardboe to county final and were only beat by a penalty in last kick of the game, so at least when you are running the man down get your facts right.
A very good appointment for Down.

Sure that was 13 years ago. Returned to Ardboe 2 years ago and didn't win a championship game in that time. Ardboe's gain that he has moved on.

I'd say so. I'd have him as strong as McCurry, Canavan, Brennan, Bradley.

And sure that's what trials are for to find out.

It would be good to see how he'd fair at a trial considering he's double marked every game we play. And wouldn't be in a trial but would be up against top defender.

surely takin the hand here

Maybe you haven't read all the posts the question was on physical strength not on ability. Is that how you read it?

Was awarded the Top Scorer in Div2 this evening (over 100 points) after picking up the award in Div3 last year - my only point was that I'd have expected them to offer a trial but not aware of any trials yet for players from our club.

Yeah maybe a trial for the season he's had but I've seen him play numerous times and really don't think he's at that level. Any county defender would have little bother containing him.

I have heard of 2 from Aghyaran, 1 GC, 1 Kildress and 2 Owen Roes players. Expecting 2/3 Moortown players but not until ulster campaign is won

Not expecting much more D2 players considering we have 3 Edendork and 3 Pomeroy players already plus players on the other teams fighting relegation in D1 on Sunday

Haven't heard if Kildress player got a trial but would be expecting one. Think we had the top scorer in Tyrone and almost top scorer in championship with only two games played.

Who's the kildress player?

Matty McGuigan

Would Mattie be physically strong enough to play county football?

Cookstown...

Discuss

Didn't see the match today so can't really comment on that, but I've seen Sean McDermotts play a few times and always thought they were decent enough. I wouldn't have been expecting Cookstown to come out on top there today.

It's kind of annoying the way they keep showing close ups of the crowd. Just focus on the pitch please.

But sure that's why your paying 16 quid.....

In fairness the coverage was very good tonight.
Well done to Dromore, deserving winners in the finish. Not the drama of alot of games this year, but it's been another excellent championship overall

Serious question was the tyrone coverage 180% better than the Derry coverage of their final?

It wasn't far away from it. I thought Derry's coverage of the final was really poor. Camera fixed on the middle of the field for the first few minutes then camera man seemed to have issues following the game for a while. Camera was too far away from the pitch and it was hard to make out players, Paul McFlynn's sound didn't work until half-time and the sound of the crowd was muted for most of the match. It was only €5 though so it didn't bother me too much.

Watched a lot of games over the last couple of seasons but I'll not be purchasing the junior final at £13. Think they are putting the hand in there

It was £13 for double headers over past couple of weeks; £13 for a standalone fixture is too much

Yea but I suppose its a final.

You can watch the Burren v Kilcoo in the Down final for £8 on Pairc TV or attend the game for the same price.

Slaughtneil v Glen tomorrow is €5

That's serious value when you consider it's £13 for a junior final in Tyrone.

Don't know how Tyrone justify such a high price in comparison to senior finals in other counties where the quality of football is pretty high.

Hard to legislate for yesterdays conditions.Suited Coalisland better think Dominic could be available he was the last man to deliver the goods for Carmen.

It's not really, it is October and the chances of Wind and Rain is high. Suited Coalisland better as we set back and let them have the ball when we were playing with the wind.

Roger Keenan was the last man in 2005.

Did dom not do back to back with Carmen in 04,05 keenan might of been beat in final in 06.

Corrigan was in charge for 04 before going to take Sligo Seniors in 2005.
Keenan took charge in 2005 before taking up High Performance Manager role with SINI which stopped him from taking management role for the following season.
Chris Brown in charge in 2006.

Carmen enjoyed a Manager Merry-go-round in them days

Read an article in The Sunday Independent last week about the Leitrim club championship. Mentioned Dominic Corrigan managing the winning team. Is that Fermanagh Dominic Corrigan?

Trillick v Killyclogher

Errigal v Loughmacrory

Dromore v Eglish

Carrickmore v Coalisland

Lough have really impressed me this year and to an extent last year as well. Should have had Dungannon away last year. We fall into the Errigal trap every year. This year will be no different.

Was on the Antrim GAA website and it said to contact your club secretary for tickets for the club games. What if you're from outside the county. Is there another way to get tickets?

Aye, I'd nip to a game this evening if I thought I'd get in by paying at the gate. Can't be arsed with a wasted journey though.
