Drawn Finals? Well that one in 1972 was a draw the first day out. Cork and Meath drew 1 as well. As did Meath and Mayo. Kerry and Galway was another.

I can't remember back anything before that.

Sam Óg - 1988?

Thats the one that I would go with, the Kingdom weren't impressed that the Royals got the old
St. Josephs GFC - SFC Champions 1996 & 2006, IFC Champions 1983, 1990 & 2016 www.thejoesgfc.com

Hardy

Correct - 12 draws:
1894 Dublin-Cork
1914 Kerry-Wexford
1926 Kerry-Kildare
1937 Kerry-Cavan
1938 Kerry-Galway
1943 Cavan-Roscommon
1946 Kerry-Roscommon
1952 Meath-Cavan
1972 Kerry-Offaly
1988 Meath-Cork
1996 Meath-Mayo
2000 Kerry-Galway

Kerry won five of their seven replays.
Meath won two of their three.
Cavan won one of their three.
Roscommon won one of their two.
Cork won one of their two, but that title was awarded to Dublin anyway in 1894 (pro-Dub bias clearly goes back that far at least)
Dublin, as I say, lost their one but got the cup anyway.
Offaly won their only replay.
Wexford, Kildare and Mayo lost their only replays.

The Sam Og  Maguire Cup was first played for in 1987 Meath were the first winners

Shit! I had no idea Wexford came so close to being the only 5-in-a-row winners!

Hardy, please tell me we weren't 2 points up with minutes to go and a little fat substitute corner-forward (veteran of the 1904 campaign) cunningly nudged our corner-back
in the back before finding the only square-foot of the net that would beat our keeper from 25 yards ..........

Yep 99.9% sure Joe Cassells was the Meath captain.

Think Cassells was captain in '88 and Mick Lyons in '87. Meath folk - can you help us out?

amallon

Lyons was the last man to lift the old Sam. Maybe I'm not right with the years

Correct. Cassells lifted the new sam in 88

Hardy

That's right. Mick lifted the last Old Sam in '87 and Joe the first New Sam in '88.

Model Hammer - I can't rightly remember the 1914 final but I do remember the Wexford lads all saying "if we're going to miss the five-in-a-row, it's better to lose the first one than the last".

timmyot501

Kildare - 1st county to win the Sam Maguire Cup in 1928
Meath were the last in 1987 (Mick Lyons)
Meath lifted the first Sam Og Maguire cup in 1988 (Jpe Cassells)
