It is only about the player if you ignore "he's doing some job for Armagh this year."
MH inherited RGs panel and ultimately couldn't manage it the next management set up will need to establish standards  and a style of play pretty quick given the split season.
Armagh keeping their manager in place whilst tweaking the backroom seems to have benefited them. Although I doubt Derry fans would accept gradual improvement over the same period McGeeney has been in post.
Would Derry folk think that there was a lack of due diligence done by Harte and backroom during club championship last year to try and unearth a few hidden gems?mcgrane for example was playing junior football last year for his club, Conaty intermediate so wouldn't automatically been standing out in the "bigger" championship games.

Quote from: marty34 on July 20, 2024, 11:06:18 AMWould it be true to say that the current Armagh panel have won nothing or very little at club, and especially inter-county level up through the age groups?

Fair to say that Armagh hsve won very little at minor and U20/21 level in the last 20 years?

This is not a criticism but a genuine query.  If true, then it would vindicate a longer term manager i.e. over 8-10 years to build a proper panel.

Now obviously a lot of this work is done via the clubs initially.
The one thing I've always felt about McGeeney is that very few lads in Armagh would turn down the phone call.  He has the pulling power to ensure the very best footballers in the county are committing to the county. You see it every time they empty their bench. Very often not the case elsewhere.  And he's definitely learned by his mistakes. But its winner takes all next week!
