They were abducted by aliens and taken to the moon. The whole thing was orchestrated by the Duke of Edinburgh.

He'd decided that in order to continue makiing public gaffes he'd have to insult aliens as he'd finished up with every race on the planet.

I cannot understand why any Irish sports fan cannot have huge affinity and admiration for Celtic. The club was established by a Christian Brother from Sligo for cahritable purposes, and ethos which still exists to this day, and from such humble beginnings to arise to a position where it became Champions of Europe and one of the biggest soccer clubs in the world, is a truly remarkable achievement and one in my opinion that renders it the Irish diaspora's most successful achievement.

In short it is more than just a football club, it is a symbol of Irish identity all over the world and more like a family

God, this time you really have to be kidding, no?

Why I feel no affinity for Celtic? 'Cos I don't give a toss about supporting soccer teams? Because they're a shit team hyped up by their adimttedly phenomenal and fantastic support.

Jessica Kuerten is an example of an Irishwoman at the pinnacle of her sport. I don't feel any affinity or admiration for her.

QuoteI was listening to the Dubliners this morning belting out The Hot Asphalt, and I despair at the lack of radio and tv coverage given to good folk music.

Would have to agree with the above statement.  I can testify that folk music continues to be popular throughout Ireland, although the mainstream media and those trying to be cool or trendy would have you believe otherwise.  Just look at the likes of The Dubliners, The Wolfe Tones, Christy Moore...they still continue to pack out venues, with the former two on the road for 45 years plus.  I can't imagine many of the current froth of fashion in the charts at present being around in 5 years never mind 45!

But the begrudgers would have you believe otherwise.....

Not really, some people just don't like trad is all. Or maybe people just got driven away ever since you joined the board and tried to paint the Wolfe Tones as some sort of epic patriots with every post.

8.Still only our Rivers run Free-??? Superbly written song,Who wrote/recorded?

Christy Moore did the only version I know. No idea who wrote it.

Fermanagh guy called Micky McConnell did the original. Christy talks about it on the Planxty Live DVD. Wolfe Tones did an awful version of it

1. Raglan Road (it's sacrilege for anyone to attempt to cover it!).

2. Song For Ireland- can't make up my mind whether I prefer Luke's or Mary Black's version. Probably Mary's, her voice is just something else. Her son gave us that fecking "San Diego" song though, so that counts against her!

3. Cliffs of Dooneen- Planxty

I never understand why the West vociferously supports regions such as Kosovo in their battles for independece, but when it comes to a region that has close ties with Russia, they're strangely silent. The Cold War is over 20 years!

The w**ks - sorry Yanks, have an oil pipeline running through Georgia from Azerbijian (?) to Turkey, so I think they will put alot of pressure on the Russians to get this dispute sorted asap.

Yes, I know this, but why is the rest of the world silent? Whatever about Abkhazia, South Ossetia is about 70% Ossetian (who identify, naturally anough, with North Ossetia, and also Russia), not Georgia.

Its easier to demand that the Yanks do something (or nothing, whatever the case may be) than to actually take any steps of our own.

I'm not speaking exclusively about the states. It just seems that the Western powers are very selective when it comes to calling for independence to be granted, and in this case it appears that the will of a people matters little, it's the political (and economic) unrest in a region that it could cause is the major factor, not to mention the looming Red figure.

Accomodation Offices rip you off any way you can. After my first year in Trinity Hall I was charged 30 euro for not having the standard matress protector. How the hell was I supposed to know at the start of the year when I checked the invnetory that it wasn't the standard one?! It's not as if it was emblazoned with a crest or anything. Complete cnuts.

Wazzas post
Quotethe neighbours surrounding my house wear gaa tops, and i live on the cregagh road and to be honest i find it very repulsing

Wazza's post isn't the issue here, I've said several times that he was widely condemned. My outrage stemmed from the fact that someone tried to score cheap points by using the issue of teen suicide in an attack against Sinn Fein.

You should say that to humpy or Caran Barr!

Again, Ciaran Barr didn't need an All-Star to let everyone know he was one of the best hurlers in the country, it was just accepted. Perhaps grudgingly in places, but accepted. Bit like Kevin McGourty in football, ya know.........

Perhaps it could be taken as a "threat" against the forum, but I did advise that the thread be closely moderated. Later on, I was asked by Marty if it was a "theat", and I said that no, it was just some "friendly advice". If there was any hint of a "threat" I would have been banned immediately and would have had no issues with it.

Soory glensman, I was just going on the basis of your first post, I haven't looked at the thread in OWC, this is what you said..

QuoteHowever I decided that it would be wise to point out (due to the minority of mouthpieces on the OWC board who would have no interest in debate, but merely give me abuse or call me "IRA supporting scum") that any sort of personal abuse directed against me or my close associates would be taken very seriously.

I only saw Chris' post afterwards. I still think it's very strangely worded, and the 'Friendly advice' comment is also a bit odd, I can see where they might think you were insinuating something, even if you weren't.

And of course I meant to say 'terrorist supporting', not 'terrorist'. That was a typo.

Fair enough, I still think the most obvious train of thought would have been legal consequences, not bullet in the knee consequences. Maybe I'm too optimistic about the mindset of the modern day Northerner. Obviously OWC and it's admins/mods don't want any legal trouble whatsoever which is why I advised the the thread be closely moderated (something Chris kindly left out of his quote), to save ALL parties embarrassment.

I dont have a problem
You saw fit to comment on gallsman getting banned but refused to say anything about your fellow OWCers comments.
Speaks volumes

I saw fit??? ;D

The thread is titled Attention OWCers and poses the question about why should gallsman should be banned.  I gave my opinion on that.

If you have any direct quotes that you want me to condemn or otherwise post them up.

You gave your opinion and I've offered a response. Would you care to comment on it? I initially intended to PM my main post but was then yapped and said "fcuk it, I may as well". You've read the thread andhave seen that there were varying amounts of personal information offered up which, if someone really really wanted, could lead to my being identified. I was thinking of the types of poster, like the aformentioned wazza, who may have been tempted to come out with some sort of abuse like "i know who you are. like. and my da's in the uvf so he is. like. and i'm gonna find out where you live and get him to kneecap you. like" and decide to pre-empt this with a friendly warning.

very hard thread to follow this if galls man made the 'close associates' comment he deserved to be banned
if he didn't some one is doing a Character asassination.
Own up whos telling lies?

Again, these words wer not used. Chrisowc posted the exact quote in italics, and as mentioned my warning was issued as I had ventured personal information so as to convince of my genuine intentions.

I have no doubt that the original poster, wazza, is a 15 year old little fart who thinks he's hard as nails. I have no doubt that 99% of the OWC members would reject and widely condemn his remarks if they were made all over again. My disgust and indignation came from the fact that a senior OWC member, Sickboy, decided to somehow use the issue of teen suicide in working class republican areas to socre cheap political points. This criticism was flat out rejected and I was dismissed offhand. From there I somehow let myself het dragged into a political debate, largely concerning the political status of the GAA and certain clubs naming themselves after formoer IRA/INLA men such as Kevin Lynch.

Then, after clearly and articulately making my points and trying to understand the perspectives of others I was banned.
