Quote from: Applesisapples on Today at 12:04:55 PMTrump did not hide who he is, he made it quite plain and much as I don't like it he reflects the USA as it is.
Non whites voting for him remind me of turkey's and Christmas. Democrats ignored the fact that Biden was deeply unpopular with many demographics and Harris by extension. Many Arab/Muslim Americans seem to have voted Trump as the least worst option. That said the Trump dynasty are odious self serving narcissistic clowns.
Michelle Obama should have stood.

It would have been the same result

Maybe not. Biden gave the Democrats a hospital pass when he stood down and endorsed Harris immediately. Had he not, and allowed the Convention to choose the candidate, it might have chosen Obama instead. There would be clear separation between her and the previous administration and the Obamas would be well-got as they say.

Capt. Con Power, legendary showjumper back in the heyday of the Aga Khan trophy at the RDS when everyone watched it. That quartet of he, James Kernan, Eddie Macken and Paul Darragh was one of the all-time great Irish teams.

Didn't arch-physicist Prof. Brian Cox I think state that ghosts, if they were a form of energy, couldn't exist, that it was impossible.

Do atheists believe in ghosts?

Quote from: Sheedy on October 13, 2024, 10:16:56 PMGreece definitely better team in the first half but Ireland much improved in second and with bit more composure we could have got an equaliser. A defeat but a performance to build on.

That sounds like Stephen Kenny-speak TBH. We had a lot of 'performances to build on' during his reign.

Quote from: Blowitupref on October 10, 2024, 08:09:33 PMThe opening goal for Finland one of the worst ever goals conceded by Irish team?

There's a lot of competition for that accolade, a lot.

Watching COYBIG Nil is as enticing as being brought to Knock for a day when you were a young lad.

Like Barry Davies and Bruce Critchley (golf), one of the best of the BBC-type commentators, knowledgeable and knew when to stay silent and not over-commentate

John Hume once said, if the word 'No' didn't exist, the Unionists would be speechless. I feel the same about the work 'Like' for the younger generation.

Gary Shaw, (then) youthful member of title-winning Aston Villa side of 1981. Head-injury complications after a fall.

QuoteHEIMIR HALLGRIMSSON HAS suggested he will not make wholesale changes for Tuesday's Nations League game against Greece, as he retains his back-seat role in charge of Ireland.

Hallgrimsson says he is leaning heavily on John O'Shea and Paddy McCarthy's input for his opening two games in charge, and has suggested he will do so again for the double-header against Finland and Greece next month.

O'Shea and McCarthy selected the squad for this month's games, and Hallgrimsson stuck with the back five system employed earlier this year by O'Shea, and Stephen Kenny before him.

Such is O'Shea's influence, he will conduct Monday's pre-match press conference rather than Hallgrimsson. This will flout Uefa's competition rules, which mandate that the head coach attends the press conference held the day before the match

This really is quite bizarre. So basically JOS is still the manager. WTF has HH been doing for 2 months. Fair enough if he was appointed last Thursday for Saturdays match but surely he must have some clue as to what players we have by now, he is certainly being paid enough.

Maybe it's only dawning on him now how utterly crap and bereft of ability we actually are. He's not going to stick around to renew his contract, if he even sees it out.

Coleman getting his international P45 here I'm afraid. Just can't do it any more at this level.

Irish job wasn't meant to be offered to him either but someone f**ked up trying to ring Bob Paisley.

Quote from: Mourne Red on July 29, 2024, 12:51:10 PMDonegal were Divison 2 Winners.. They won in old days of 1a/1b 2a/2b. Think Armagh and maybe some of the Glenn players for Derry and St Brigids players for Roscommon would be the only ones (If you include club All_Ireland medals)

A few of our 1992 team would have played Division 3 in the 80s. Not sure if they topped their group though, and I think at that point qualifiers from all the divisions went into the one knockout series anyway.

Don't think we've dropped below Division 2 since those days.

Armagh are probably the first to actually have Div 3 medals to win an All-Ireland.
Some teams have won All-Irelands from Div 3, such as Kerry in 1969 (who also won the league) but the divisions were geographically based then.

The concept of a Div 3 final with a trophy and medals is a relatively new concept. Previously the most a Div 3 winner would get was a place in the league 1/4 final.

I'm not sure what the structure was like in 1998 when Galway won the AI. They emerged from a league group (A) containing Mayo, Leitrim, Laois, Louth, Fermanagh, Carlow, Kilkenny and lost in the 1/4 final to eventual winners Offaly. Not a very auspicious start to that year.

Quote from: lurganblue on July 26, 2024, 02:10:36 PMCheers folks.  I see there is a post doing the rounds with a right few trains going from Dundalk station.  That's an option I suppose, as long as it is legit.

Do they stop in Drumcondra or straight to Connolly?

He probably won't get it but Johnny McGrath at 40/1 is way over-priced.
