They would be better spent learning to tackle. Same issues as last year no discipline in the tackle.

It all comes down to that magical percentage number though,  what percentage a ref will give a free when conned.  I'd say it's up around 75%.  A player throwing himself to the ground yelping isn't indiscipline in the tackle.  We've plenty of other areas to work on  though in fairness

That's a seriously brutal sport.  Did mcgregor take the foot off the gas in the 2nd thinking it was in the bag and let his guard down? That left on the chin was a clinker

How any man can question any of those hooers tapping out beggars belief!

Is it a macho thing to not wipe the blood away during rounds?

I wasn't questioning it. I just said, he tapped out and Holm didn't!

Mon now,  you were having a go. Those boys are brave to a point being buck mad.   That's the 2nd ufc fight I've watched and will be prob be my last,  too frigging savage.

Derry run to the papers yet?

No time,  the squad were called to Owenbeg @ 7am this morning to start their first 'go to ground whilst cocking your head back and letting out a girlie yelp at the merest touch'  session.

Anybody watching Lucky Man?? I'm actually quite enjoying it even though Jimmy Nesbitt's in it.

Madam Secretary is starting to come into its own a bit as well I thought it was a poor man's West Wing but I'm really liking this season.

Also with a lack of shows at the minute I've started watching the West Wing again . . . fantastic television!!

Billions,  Limitless,  Vikings,  11.22.63, Trapped,  Blacklist all running at the minute,  all good Screen if you haven't already dipped
Is Limitless any good?  I enjoyed the film.

it's a good show, not top bracket though LL. You enjoy The Walking Dead, I'd near enough given up on it, but that 1st episode a few weeks back after the mid season break, sweet jesus !

Is Barton allowed on the line? I heard a decent story about there recently sounds like the man is nuts when it comes to aggressive issues.

I'd say he was a hardy boy in his hay day - Fair play to Pascal for stepping up to the plate and putting him in his box that day!

What nonsense!! Pascal punched him once and got sent off.

Barton not allowed on line for the next 7 weeks AFAIK.

Canavan hit him 2 or 3 quick blasts to the nose - blood flew out of Barton. He was caught unaware. Remember it clear as day, happened right in front of me in Clones.

the usual form, prob covered in nip bruises as well !

looking forward to a good hardy (and frustrating) contest on Sat night. The forecast is decent enough, last year we thought the roof was gonna come off the big stand. Hopefully Barton starts Conor and Emmet in the middle, bring big Nial on midway through the 2nd half. Sean Leo will no doubt start, was maybe the only positive from last Sunday when introduced, an unreal footballer.

Jesus stop!! I don't need more suggestions I've been trying to wean myself off a plethora of things to watch so I could get it down to a more manageable level.

The staying up until 3-4am during the week to binge watch Narcos/Breaking Bad/The Wire etc. couldn't keep continuing or I would have gotten sacked or divorced or both!!

i know the feeling, the hooers are making them faster than we can watch them !

Great result and as long as Tyrone beat Derry next week 3 wins from our remaining 4 games will see us promoted unless one of Cavan/Fermanagh/Armagh/Laois/Meath win all their remaining games.

I see Walsh started instead of FOC, was he injured?

It was some scoring performance from Heaney to score 4 points from the half back line, how did he play apart from that? It was good to hear that Hanley, Sice & Cathal Sweeney were all introduced from the bench; We lacked strength in depth last year and it looks looks like KW has more options this year.

Ya, FOC injured prior to game, so Walsh started for him, at midfield too I think. Was subbed later, struggled a bit to link up with the rest I think. Flynn quite good too by all accounts, whereas Comer had a quieter day. Not sure how Hanley was, Sice and Sweeney came on in 'dead time'.
I think the Galway midfield pairing last Sunday was P Conroy,T Flynn.

Conroy yes,  Tomas Flynn played between right half forward and deeper on the right.  He had a very good game

Derry 2-12  Galway 1-18

Galway in command all game by the sounds of it. Could have had a couple more goals. Galway led by 11 coming towards the end before Derry got a late 2-3. Not easy to win up in there so you'll take it.

Johnny Heaney with 0-4 from wing back.

10 point margin wouldn't have flattered Galway!  Brainless football from  a Derry perspective,  too many incidents to mention.  Surprised by our work rate and fight tbh

Most talented fighter at any weight at present is GGG. Froch can sit and talk rubbish all Night on Sky about tactics etc. A poor George Groves put him on his arse and he will stay retired for fear that Golovkhin will destroy him inside 3 Rounds.

Whatever you think of froch,  one thing that can't be said about him is that he ducked opponents. He is near 40 and is retired and he should keep it that way.

Agreed!  Was thinking about how much a fighter like Froch will be missed after watching that tepid affair last night.  Always produced great battles and ducked no one,  ever.  Groves may be an average enough fighter @ that level but he's strong.  He caught Froch flush with a punch of a lifetime.  Most fighters wouldn't have got up to the next day,  never mind have the heart to recover mid fight and win.  Then destroy him in the rematch.

Big, big game for both teams. The winners will be odds-on to go up with Tyrone; the losers will need a very unlikely set of circumstances to have any chances of going up.

It's a decent Derry team, with a fair bit of depth on the bench and there is evidence of progress under Barton. Home advantage may keep the game fairly close, but given how easily Galway disposed of Derry last year in Salthill (even allowing for Conor Lane's tour de force in maroon), anything other than a win for the Tribesmen would be a surprise.

Gaillimh by four.

There was nought easy about Galways win in Salthill.  From Brendans black card,  all the handy,  moved in frees especially in the first half and the penalty not given / Galway goal 6 point swing,  Lane was the difference.  I'm not saying Derry would have won with a different ref,  but it would have went to the wire. Add in the Barton factor,  the change in style,  our huge forward unit,  the conditioning of the players,  we're in ruder health than last year.    Galway by 4? Can't see it

Derry beat Cavan by a point, Derry missed a goal and give away a very poor goal when head by 3, Cavan missed alot apparently and could have equalised at the end

Cavan didn't equalise because our boys defended well.  I counted half a dozen blocks in about a minute period in added on time.  Ref wasn't great,  but didn't favour either side.  Questionable frees given to both.  Decent enough match played in fairly poor conditions.  Grass extremely long and fairly bumpy and a bitterly cold wind blowing down towards the car park end.  A big 2 points.  Cavan have ended on the wrong side of 2 very close games but they should stay up I reckon

Did you count the fouls that were ignored by the ref or just the blocks in those final few minutes? Referee was atrocious and we were badly let down by the balance of the decisions. Hyland isn't a prima donna or one to slate referees after games but he refused to speak to the media after the game.

Derry looking good to go up now, ourselves and Armagh into a dogfight for relegation. We've performed well though and if we continue to put in shifts like we did tonight we can still do enough to stay up.

2 of your first 3 points were from handy frees along the stand end.  Tell me who fouled who for the penalty claim at the end as I didn't see it.  The Derry defenders were tenacious in the final minutes,  because a man goes to ground doesn't mean it's a foul.  Our men were tackling the ball,  blocking shots left right and centre.  As I've said,  Cavan will stay up, youse could be sitting on 4 points if youd taken your chances,  not if the refs had given you more frees
