Since the League competition was reasonably successful, let's see who can topple David McKeown in the white-hot Championship contest.
The Championship Competition will be run week by week. Since there must be a result on the day in every game except the All-Ireland final, contestants must pick the team that advances.
Pick the winning team correctly and you get 1 point. A bonus point is available for getting the margin of victory correct, within a 3-point band. Band 1 is 1-3 points, so if you pick 1, 2 or 3 point margin, you get the bonus point. Band 2 is 4-6 points; Band 3 is 7-9 points, and so on upward in 3-point increments.
Contestants need only pick the margin of victory in points, as was in the League competition. I'll translate it to bands as I input the selections. So a pick that reads "Tyrone by 2" and if Tyrone win by 1,2 or 3 you get the bonus point in addition to the 1 point for getting the winning team correct. There is no additional bonus for getting the margin exactly right.
Extra time is not considered here...if Tyrone win by 2 after 70 minutes or after extra time, the margin of victory is 2. The only difference is for a game that is decided by penalties: the winning team is deemed to have a 1 point winning margin, no matter how many penalties are taken.
The Tailteann Cup will also be included in the competition.
I foresee a maximum of 14 weeks in the championship season and for ease of viewing, here is the announced schedule (although there may be schedule changes along the way):

The point I'm making is the game can finish in any of the following ways. A match can end after normal time with a result in any of the brackets. Each bracket has theoretically the same chances as they are all the same width. Similarly it can end after extra time with a result in any of the three brackets. Or the result can end after penalties but if it does the result is only in one bracket. So statistically speaking if you pick a win in bracket one you have an extra chance of being right that you don't get in any other bracket.

Such fine margins/dubious decisions will no doubt move to the Championship as well.

Yes it's inherently that and/or that I am incredibly lazy and don't bother thinking about it to the Friday. Next week may be no different depending on DRA hearing dates
Firstly, a reminder on the scoring system: 1 point for correctly predicting the winner and a bonus point for getting the margin of victory for that team within a range. Range A is 1-3 points, B is 4-6 points, C is 7-9 points and so on. Margin of victory for extra time games will be the margin at the end of extra time. Margin of victory after penalties will be 1 point.
So this weekends results saw Tyrone win by 7...so anyone who predicted Tyrone to win by 7, 8 or 9 get the bonus point. Similarly, Letrim's 4 point victory gives the bonus to those who picked them by 4,5 or 6 points. Sligo got there by 4 as well, so 4,5,or 6 got you the bonus.
There is no extra bonus for getting the margin of victory exactly correct.

Can I ask about the bands? Think it's a bit strange to have a situation where for example, with a 3 point win someone who picks a 1 point win gets the bonus, but someone who picks a 4 point win (which is closer to the 3 point win) does not. The person who picked 4 guessed closer, but doesn't get recognition of this. Would a 1 score plus or minus not work better and reward those who are closer? I.e. if I pick 4, and the margin is 3 or 5 I get the bonus?

Nothing wrong with anything you say. Ideally, the bonus point would be for exact margin only, but the league finals had only something like 2 out of 50+ entrants getting it right, so it was decided to expand it. I did ask for opinions and got no replies.
It is what it is for now, but I'll keep your suggestion in mind and see if I can easily get the competition results quickly and not have too much work on a Sunday evening.
I'll have to move up to intermediate level on excel if things get much more complicated.

From page 1, where one would normally find rules::
Pick the winning team correctly and you get 1 point. A bonus point is available for getting the margin of victory correct, within a 3-point band. Band 1 is 1-3 points, so if you pick 1, 2 or 3 point margin, you get the bonus point. Band 2 is 4-6 points; Band 3 is 7-9 points, and so on upward in 3-point increments.
Contestants need only pick the margin of victory in points, as was in the League competition. I'll translate it to bands as I input the selections. So a pick that reads "Tyrone by 2" and if Tyrone win by 1,2 or 3 you get the bonus point in addition to the 1 point for getting the winning team correct. There is no additional bonus for getting the margin exactly right.
Extra time is not considered here...if Tyrone win by 2 after 70 minutes or after extra time, the margin of victory is 2. The only difference is for a game that is decided by penalties: the winning team is deemed to have a 1 point winning margin, no matter how many penalties are taken.

Week 9 draw tomorrow morning, so I'll post the fixtures at that time.
By the way, Week 9 features Rd 2 of the All-Ireland Championship between the 4 provincial losers and the 4 winners from Rd 1 this weekend.
These 4 games plus the Quarter finals (4 games), semi finals (2 games) and Final (1 game) = 11 senior games left.
Add in 2 Tailteann Cup semifinals and the final means 14 games left in the season, unless a replay in the final.
Plenty of games to make a run up the Leaderboard.

Couple of hairy moments throughout the championship that could have cost me too however.
I now am applying for the Mayo manager job and will have maigheo as my number two. 8)
The championship and league competitions were great craic and if I'm unsuccessful in getting the Mayo manager job then I hope to be back again next year.
