Nevermind the feelings that MR2 describes above but the reality is that even within counties there is far too much fixture congestion.  The only way to run the whole lot, club and county, off in a single calender year is to scrap the back door system at club and county level and start the club championships at a sensible time. For example, the Armagh championship doesn't start until August!  I think Down is similar.

Simply saying that starting the games earlier also fails to comprehend how difficult it is to play/train in November, the club finals are to be the showcase for the 'grass-roots' and people want to relegate them to potential mudbaths?  And that would just be the football, would it be right to have the best club hurlers playing in a quagmire? I think what might be more feasible is that the county schedule be changed back to the way it used to be in terms of the National League and then bring forward the championship by 3-4 weeks with AI finals being played at the end of August/early September.  Scrap the McKenna cup etc and simply have NL games running Oct/ November and Feb/March.

I'm all for running it off in a calender year and would be in favour of the backdoor system being changed to an open draw. But getting counties to run off their championships before the end of September is going to be difficult, the counties left in the latter stages of the the All Ireland will not have their players available for clubs, counties would also need to have straight knockout championships instead of group stages, so many things to change.

And then you run the provincial championships and get them finished before when? The pitches are shite in November and December

Donegal Celtic.

Cliftonville are the only taig team worth 2d though.

Cliftonville was mainly a Prod team when it first started was it not? A lot of it's main directors were of a Protestant background, I'm sure someone could be more informed than me on this

He drafted a few in for the last league game against Roscommon and the Sligo final i think, and lost both. Think it disrupted the team a bit

Did alright, would have been better to finish off with the players that got them to the play off final, then arranged a clatter of challege games to bring the Galls lads into the system being used. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, having players back from an All Ireland team is very tempting to play straight away, I'm sure the Cross lads would have played for Armagh had they have been in same situation.

When it works out well your a great manager, when it goes tits up.......

Yes lads I can see where you are going, but as a club man watching your team walk out on at Croke Park on St Paddy's day is the best feeling in the world. We've been there a couple of times on Paddy's day, some craic.

There are a few posters here who have had that day out, they will all say the same thing, but on reflection believe it may need changing, but if a player has that chance to play in Croke Park, they'll want that feeling on any day of the year but Paddy's day is something else

#OscarPistorius #CityPress reports Steenkamp spent the night, first shot fired in the bedroom, possibly hitting her in hip

#OscarPistorius #CityPress reports she then locked herself in the bathroom - 3 shots through door. She's hit in the head, finger and arm.

#OscarPistorius #CityPress reports he then carries her bloodied body downstairs. He doesn't call for an ambulance, but family

@barrybateman: #OscarPistorius #CityPress reports a bloodied bat was found - used either to bludgeon Steenkamp or she used it to defend herself.

It doesn't look good for Pistorius? He needs OJs lawyers.

He'd more than likely get this guy to help him!! Ironside

Ballymun remind me of our club during the run to the finals, plenty of fitness running through that team, everyone running off the ball looking for support and options, all the players filling in the gaps from the attacking defenders and they took their scores well. Some tough tackles and players have plenty of spirit.

St Brigids might win it purely on experience (need to lose one to win one) but Ballymun don't give a shite, in truth I thought Crokes were crap so I'm finding this one hard to gauge. Cooper was a yappy wee shite the whole way through the game, he's have been booked early on for slabbering if I was refereeing it.

I think both teams to win 1-3 points might be the better bet, should be around 7/2 - 100/30

He did as much running as anyone else in a Loughgiel shirt yesterday. Can we drop the liam watson fixation in this thread? He is what he is. I could bring up stories about players from other clubs ad nauseam to what ends? None is the answer. It's petty and futile.

Look people will always have something to say about certain players from their club, I've been fighting my corner for years over players from my club so that's just the way it is. Problem is he is always judged on his on his good days (All Ireland Final) very difficult to have games like that all the time.

Would prefer to play him in a central role in games, if the ball only goes down one wing 15 times in a game then he'll only have that many times to get it, how many does he win off that?? Playing him through a central position then he can link up on either side. But same could be said about Eddie, thought though he found himself on a lot of ball, DD happy enough to land his puck outs towards him.

Well that's that for a while, looking forward to new season hopefully the new league structures won't be a pain to most and we can get up to the top flight. A lot of new players being blooded by new management hopefully they are up for the task

Was donaghy not a west belfast man?

Played for St Galls before the soccer got him, his brother played FB for years, his realitives still at Club and Mal back home in Belfast a right few years also

Had he a brother called Jim? Used to mind Mal's brother Jim (Chelsea fan) used to deliver paint down our way at one stage.

His brother Joe played FB and Martin played up front for a few years, scored in final one year, has been living off it since I fear. Can't mind Jim though, but I'm sure i'll know by tomorroe no doubt

I think there's also an element of fatigue in this result. They didn't look as sharp in this game or last as they did at this stage last year. The extra month's rest will do no harm in the long run. And anyway, there's always the 4 in a row to aim for.  ;)

Yeah and to be honest there isn't a team in the Antrim Championship close enough to them.
