General discussion / Re: Olympics Paris 2024

Quote from: straightred on July 31, 2024, 09:21:28 PMAnd there's the dodgy boxing result. Happens every olympics. O'Rourke looked to have won that comfortably. The Pole wrestled her way through the 3rd and wasn't penalised for holding despite numerous warnings.

Yeah thought O'Rourke was much better and would be straight forward decision for the judges, then as I soon heard split decision a dodgy result was possible. Of course could have stopped that by taking off points for Wojcik for holding.

Congrats to Armagh the most composed and accurate team on the day.  Has been some journey for them from those four penalty shootout losses to winning the All Ireland. I doubt before the game many expected 1-11 be enough to win All Ireland final and probably a hard one to explain for the amount of pundits/journalist that keep saying that teams needs to be hitting 20 points to be winning these games.

Galway while only lost by a point and had their chances to bring that game into extra time at least, in truth they never reached the performance levels that beat Donegal and Dublin.  The way they conceded the goal was so unlike the defending they have done all championship and that goal proved to be the games key score. Much Like the Seagull a lot of Galway's best players was wandering round looking injured and struggled to make impact on the game.
Be interesting to see how both do next year. Last time Armagh won the All Ireland they were one win away from retaining it. Galway will likely be more hurt after that defeat than 2022 and need to look into their training methods as injuries has plagued them in the last two years.

Quote from: blanketattack on July 23, 2024, 11:39:18 PMIf Armagh win, they'll have won the All-Ireland without any of their players having played in an All-Ireland semi-final prior to the All-Ireland winning year.

When's the last time this has happened?
Galway in 98
Derry in 93

Galway in 1998 had Gary Fahey,Ray Silke,Sean OG de Paor.Tomas,Mannion,Kevin Walsh,Ja Fallon and Niall Finnegan who started in the 1995 All Ireland semi final.

Quote from: Shamrock Shore on July 23, 2024, 07:56:28 PMPaddy Christie, fresh from his massive 12-10 vote, has decided to step down as Longford manager.

Hard to know who fancies the gig now.

Only way is up for Longford after the place and shape Christie and his management has left Longford in.

Good career but that decline of Kyle Walker was seen tonight as he was poor on both of Spain's goals and other chances they probably should have scored from.

Worth noting Kerry did't go all out in Munster or the league and avoided the 3 games in 14 days by topping their group.

Pure evil and the brother is already serving a life sentence

Quote from: Cunny Funt on July 04, 2024, 10:29:23 PMAndy Moran stepped down tonight from the Leitrim senior gig after three years in charge.

I thought in the paper that Andy was looking another 3 year term.  It was in the paper last week.

They got promoted to Div. 3 and he seemed happy enough to go for another term.

Only thing he said was a 1 year term was no good and he wanted a 3 year term.

What happened?

County board probably didn't agree on the length of time he wanted to say.

Harte will likely have one more gig in him before he retires I wonder will Leitrim or Kildare interest him.

Quote from: Truthsayer on July 07, 2024, 02:17:08 PMGAA has done great job in totally demeaning the All Ireland minor final so they can have a circus at the senior final. The amount of empty seats in the stand and seems to be no-one in any other part of the ground. Is little word of the game anyway. Omagh an awful venue at the best of times..
Unless my eye sight is going the covered stand looks mainly full.

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on July 05, 2024, 12:59:30 PMGalway are favourites because they beat Dublin. I fancy Donegal to win this with a few points to spare, they have managed to have the best route to the semi with a mixture of games played well, could have done better and room for improvement.

Injuries to key players on both sides will play a part and how they both play the ref, it will be a better game that the other I feel for entertainment

And rightly so, how would Donegal have fared against Dublin with it their 3rd match in 14 days when you consider Donegal struggled and lost to Cork when it was 2nd match in 7 days.

Galway haven't lost a championship game by a bit to spare since 2021, the way they set up doesn't allow it but their system also allows teams they should be beating by a bit to spare to stay in games. On the injury front the main question is will two weeks be enough time for Shane Walsh to overcome his hamstring injury, the deciding factor for me in match that will likely be won or lost on fine margins.

Congratulations to Galway, no disrespect to the Dubs have been a great team but no harm to see them knocked out so soon

Up there with the best championship results Galway have produced when you consider today was their 3rd match in 14 days and up against a rested Dublin in their home patch. The rossies in the earlier match showed all the signs of that tough schedule especially their shooting and case not helped of course with playing the all of the 2nd half with 14 men.

Serious belief and momentum for Galway now going into the semi final and it will take a top team to beat them now.
