or just leave the rules as are, we make drastic changes too our game way way too much.

The game needs drastic changes though.

The only adult matches I tune into these days that don't involve Ballyholland or Down, are either the last stages of the AI, or games with Mayo playing.

Everything else turns me off.

So it's not football I'm tuning in for, but a sense of loyalty.

Admittedly I am a sample of one. Except most people I know from my generation have gone the same way.

Mayo have been as risk averse as any team has been over the last 2 or 3 years, Western People had a good article on Mayo's style of play at the moment and it's not one to get bums off seats. During games with the Mayo's slow laborious play you can hear a pin drop in a full MacHale Park stand nowadays.

Deserved defeat or be it somewhat flattering margin of defeat. If you are to lose these high profile games you at least make yourself hard to score against. United was a mile off in that regard with all three goals coming from United having possession of the ball and cheaply giving it away, Casemiro awful for the first two and rightly subbed off at half time and Mainoo poor on the 3rd goal. Liverpool are among the best on turnovers and exploiting errors and three goals from three shots on target highlighted that today.

Quote from: From the Bunker on August 30, 2024, 01:09:42 PMThe promoter has become the tout.

Most of the Acts appearing in Croke Park of late are based on Nostalgia - Oasis, ACDC, Bruce Springstein, Coldplay, Spice Girls, Westlife, The Rolling Stones, Garth Brooks, U2.

They are promoted as special occasions - hence being able to charge more.

I know Bunker, and I'm part of the problem. Springsteen last year and hopefully Oasis next year. I know they are gouging the sh1te out of it, but what can you do? But, I refuse to pay for a room in a Dublin hotel! Not that I could afford it. Viva le revolution

Neighbours went to coldplay last night. They got home to Mayo at 2:30am. Not a notion of them staying even on the outskirts of Dublin.

Castlebar and Westport was at it also for spiking up Hotel/B&B prices for any concerts. Wolftones are playing in the TF Royal hotel the next two nights.  They recently added buses at 15 euro to bring people home

Himself and James Dolan was starters, normally you see fellas retire when they have fallen down the pecking order. Another two starters gone in Andy McCormack (emigrated to the Middle East) and David Lynch (gone Australia) and remains to be seen will John Heslin and Kieran Martin will make themselves available for the year ahead.  All of those departures would have been known in house for some time and might somewhat explain why Dessie Dolan surprising stepped down as manager?

Quote from: JPGJOHNNYG on August 24, 2024, 02:41:05 PMNew season same shit. Disallowed goal sums utd up.
Disallowed goal proved to be the turning point. A draw on the balance of play probably would have been a fair result but when you defend as poorly as United did on both goals, Maguire  unable to deal with a cross for the 1st and the whole left hand side of the defence going AWOL for the 2nd in the 5th minute of added time you have nobody but yourself to blame for losing.

Hard earned and deserved win in the end although gave Fulham hope of picking up at least a draw mainly due to United's lack of a clinical edge  Mazraoui good on his debut and Zirkzee off the bench to score the winner. Improvement on last season when lost and conceded two goals at home to Fulham.

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on August 10, 2024, 04:57:40 PMUtd had enough chances to win that despite City's dominance on the ball

Yes Rashford,McTominay wasted big goal scoring chances before the goal finally arrived from Garnacho.  City's goal on 89 minutes was their first effort on target and at that stage United had a winger trying to play full back (Pellistri) and defended poorly on that goal.  When you get to sudden death on shootouts you tend to get fellas that aren't keen on taking one and Evans looked like that before blasting the ball over the bar.

Pre-season done and dusted now and was a decent work out today before the new season gets up and running next weekend.

If she does it could be enough to get a medal. Best of luck to her.
I'm guessing 5th. Hope better than that.

As it turned out had she matched her personal best she still would have finished 4th. High class field and at just 21 has done very well in her first Olympics final, all good experience for the next one in LA.

Men's football please note!!!

Doubt that would be done in men's football regardless of the amount of notes taken.  Nervous finish by Leitrim but fair play to them to for winning the All Ireland.  Carrick,Ballinamore,Mohill etc should be buzzing tonight.
