GAA Discussion / When will club football start?
« on: February 10, 2021, 09:06:05 AM »
I know that no one knows, but what do we think are realistic dates for club football to be allowed back training again?

Surely we won't have to wait until the majority of adults are vaccinated before football could be played (as it is outdoors)?  If we do, that would be bad news as the South are so far behind the North in the vaccines roll out.

What's the current best guesses?

GAA Discussion / Question re Advantage rule
« on: October 16, 2016, 08:02:59 PM »
In the Armagh senior club final today an attacker was fouled, Paudie Hughes the referee signaled advantage.  The attacker then immediately made an illegal handpass.

To the surprise of the crowd the referee awarded a free out against the attacker for a throw ball.

Was the referee correct, or did he make a mistake?  I'm assuming that (in the referee's eyes) as the player made an illegal handpass this technical infrinegement overruled the advantage he was receiving.

It certainly seemed odd as the attacker got absolutely zero advantage.

GAA Discussion / Armgh v Derry today at 4pm
« on: May 07, 2016, 08:41:11 AM »
Anyone with nothing better to do should come to Tullysaran to watch the Challenge game between Armagh and Derry at 4pm today (Saturday 7th May).

Whatever about the football, it's a nice part of the country, so come along!!!

General discussion / One Direction For Dads
« on: May 25, 2014, 06:57:42 AM »
I'm doing taxi driver to the One Direction concert in Croke Park tonight and so will have a good few hours wait after I drop the family off.

Is there anywhere I could go for an hour or so that would be happy for me to work on a laptop in return for drinking just 1 or 2 cups of coffee?

I'm coming from the North so I'd prefer to stay that side of Fegans to ensure I can get back down again to pick everyone up.

General discussion / Ford smax
« on: March 20, 2012, 07:19:30 AM »
With having 3 kids all in booster / baby seats we need a car that allows us to get the 3 seats across the back.

Herself doesn't fancy a real big wagon like a Galaxy etc and so the smax seems like a decent solution.

However, I am a bit worried about the reliability issues that google searches bring up, but perhaps these issues relate to older models (I'm looking at a 2011).

Anyone have any comments to make about the smax, or even any alternatives?

GAA Discussion / Cairde Catherine - Sat 13th August
« on: August 10, 2011, 10:04:01 AM »
A host of past and present GAA stars will be in Bellaghy on Saturday August 13th to honour the memory of the late Catherine Quinn (nee Murray) and raise funds for charity.

Catherine, the wife of former Bellaghy and Derry footballer, Danny Quinn died on May 13 of this year. After being diagnosed with primary pulmonary hypertension nine years ago, she underwent a double lung transplant in May 2010.

Catherine and Danny have three children, Amy (15), Conor (12) and Dara (10).

A passionate Gael, Catherine was originally from Ballinascreen and her family has a long association with the local GAA club. Catherine’s brother Conor captained the Derry hurlers to the Ulster title in 2001.

Two matches have been organised which will reflect the Quinn family's links to club, college and county.

The first game at 4pm will feature players from the 1994 Derry final between Ballinascreen and Bellaghy. Both clubs will field select line-ups that will include special guests from across the county.

The second game at 5pm is between the St Mary’s Belfast team that won the Sigerson Cup in 1989 and members of  the Derry squad that lifted the All-Ireland title in 1993. Danny Quinn was a pivotal member of both panels.

The entire St Mary’s Belfast team has already confirmed that they will in attendance on August 11. Danny’s team-mates from ‘The Ranch’ side of ’89 include Benny Tierney, Jarlath Burns, Pascal Canavan, Seamus Downey and Malachy O’Rourke.

The matches will be refereed by Monaghan’s Pat McEnaney and Bellaghy’s Mickey Convery. Former Armagh Allstar Jimmy Smyth will provide live commentary.
All proceeds will go to the hospitals which treated Catherine during the course of her long illness.

General discussion / Wireless router / access point with best range
« on: September 05, 2010, 10:03:52 PM »
I am looking a bit of IT help.

I want to be able to use my broadband connection in a neighbouring building - it is approx 100m in distance.
A wired connection isn't really possible.

Does anyone know of a wireless device with that sort of range?

General discussion / Faceplate on BT Master Socket
« on: July 24, 2010, 09:00:46 AM »
Who is resposnsible for this?  Me or BT?

When using the BT Master Socket I cannot get broadband, however, when I unscrew the faceplate and connect straight into the engineer's test socket my broadband works.

Therefore I am pretty certain that there is a problem with the faceplate (I have an NTE5 socket).

I know that I am supposed to be repsonsible for all wiring from the master socket, but am I respsonsible for the actual wiring of the face plate in the NTE5?

Thought I would post this here, as I am sure that someone knows someone who knows someone.....

The company I work for is on the lookout for dealers / distributors in the crushing / screening / washing industry, primarily in the USA (but also in other countries as well).

If anyone here knows someone in this industry who would be interested in such an opportunity could you let me know so that I can pass on some more details?

General discussion / Best movies of last 2 or 3 years
« on: May 26, 2009, 08:23:06 PM »
Saddest post of all time coming up  :o

Due to being the father of a 3 year old and a 20 month old who are both early risers I haven't matched a movie in 2 or 3 years.
I thought it was about time I caught up with some of the best movies I have missed out on, except the only problem is that I haven't been keeping up to date with what has been released over this period.

So if I was looking to view the best dozen or so movies of the last couple of years, what would appear on your list?

General discussion / Question for League of Ireland heads

Is there any sites on the www that gives detailed match stats for the FAI premier league games?

I am after shots, shots on target and corners.

General discussion / A must for any Music Lover (in the 6 Counties)
« on: January 18, 2009, 08:38:14 PM »
Don't know if anyone here has heard of Spotify.

Here is a recent write up about it;

There is a link that temporarily is allowing sign ups from the UK;

I have tried it, and it is pretty amazing - as much music as you want, no downloading required and just the very occasional advert.

General discussion / Maroon Heaven

I wonder is Maroon Heaven the first GAABoard contributor to get a feature done on them in the Ulster Business magazine (there's a full page on him in this month's edition).
