He lived in "interesting times".
But had he got back as Taoiseach in 97 woukd we have got the Good Friday Agreement?

Not a hope would there have been a GFA with Bruton at the helm. The historic pic of Hume Reynolds and Adams would never have taken place if John Bruton was still Taoiseach.

Bruton came after Reynolds.

Dag Dog

Bruton wasn't as invested in the Peace Process as Reynolds or Ahern. He bent himself backwards to promote the Unionist point of view. I doubt he could have coaxed Sinn Fein & the IRA to an agreement.

Only just seeing that Bruton died. I thought he did a fine job as Toaiseach.

That's mad. Not a word about it on Sky Sports News this morning.
Only broke the record in Chicago recently if I recall. Was touted as being the man who would be first to break 2hrs officially.

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has died at the Arctic prison colony where he was serving a 19-year-term, Russia's federal penitentiary service said in a statement.

"Navalny felt bad after a walk, almost immediately losing consciousness. Medical staff arrived immediately and an ambulance team was called.

"Resuscitation measures were carried out which did not yield positive results. Paramedics confirmed the death of the convict.

"The causes of death are being established," the statement said.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia's penitentiary service was making all checks regarding Navalny's death, but that he had no information about the matter.

Quelle suprise. Had to do something else due to the lack of hotel windows in prison.

Yes if he didn't have an unfortunate tumble out a window we can only assume that whilst out for his walk he slipped on a banana skin at the top of a large flight of stairs.
