Myself and the better half had planned (and provisionally booked with deposit paid) to get married in a fine hotel just across the border in the free state in July 2010, but the way the euro has went is causing me sleepless nights and I think it'd be better to try and get my deposit back and book somewhere in the north. Any suggestions on good venues within a 30mile radius of Banbridge? (not the canal court as its already booked out)

Same as myself and the other half, only our wedding is July this year, if it was further away I've no doubt we would be like yourself and thinking of switching hotels. However the general talk from those in the know seems to be that it'll drop again and when u see how quick the turn-around came a decline might come just as quick.

We're not having too many sleepless nites just yet thou cos we dont know wat way things will go, but if it stays as is is at present the guest list will be reduced - simple as.
We also talked to the hotel the other day and mentioned the exchange rate and said they too are feeling the pressure cos of decline of northern couples even equiring about weddings in the hotel and that they are planning to get a package together to make up for it, so that its competitive again with northern hotels. We're to talk more to them in Feb/March but I know we'll be pushing for a good deal if the euro stays where it is.

So generally before doing anything I would approach the hotel and see if there is anything they are doing.

Hate this weather with a passion! Admit its lovely to look out at and might kill bugs/flu but thats it! Going anywhere in it is a nitemare with roads more like ice rinks.

Even walking to the car be lucky not to break my neck and seriously thinking of up-grading the car for a sleigh! and dont even get me started on people in work who live in the town beside nicely salted/ clear roads who complain about there drive way not actually being cleared for them/ having to defrost there car!

(I dont totally live in the sticks, just unfortunite to live in quite a high area)

End rant!

1993 here - well for about half of my fellow class members. It was the first year of the "new" test.

Didn't do it myself so had the joy of playing board games while the exams were on & still got to go to the shop once it was over and home early. Cant say I've ever felt I missed out on anything by not doing it, other than probably a sinking feeling when a letter with a D came in the post.

Personally I think some of the parents be as nervous as the children & that can't be good for a 10/11yr old.

Have been looking at honeymoons as well,

Visited trailfinders and found them excellent, very informative and helpful.
At the minute we've 2 main option:

4 nites in Vegas, 2 nites in LA, 3 nites Santa Babara, 1 nite Monterey and finishing with 4 nites in san fran

OR

4 nites in Vegas, 2 in LA, 5 in Hawaii and 4 in san fran

Generally to go to Hawaii would push the cost up - is it worth it?

Your answers suggest you are a Nurturer
The four aspects that make up this personality type are: Planner, Facts, Hearts & Introverts

Summary of Nurturers
Care for the important people in their lives
Strive for harmony and avoid confrontation
Think of themselves as gentle, conscientious, and mature
May have trouble making decisions that could hurt others
More about Nurturers
Nurturers are quiet people who believe in order and diligently look after the people they care about. They focus on the needs of others and establish routines to help them meet their commitments.

Nurturers remember details that are important to them, such as their friends' birthdays and anniversaries. People with this personality type value others' feelings and may challenge behaviour they think is insensitive.

In situations where they can't use their talents or are unappreciated, Nurturers may feel bitter and seek support by complaining to their colleagues. Under extreme stress, Nurturers may become preoccupied with the worst possible outcome and believe that they are heading for disaster.

Because they are so caring and loyal, Nurturers run the risk of being taken advantage of.

Nurturer Careers
Nurturers are often drawn to jobs that allow them to help others.

It's important to remember that no survey can predict personality type with 100 percent accuracy. Experts say that we should use personality type to better understand ourselves and others, but shouldn't feel restricted by our results.

Its almost unbelievable that 10 years has passed already, like so many others I can remember it and the events of the following days as if it was yesterday.
Many people have experienced lots of dark hours and days since and no doubt will continue to do so despite the passing of time. My thoughts and prayer are with those who died and those who suffered & continue too as a result of that terrible Saturday afternoon.

General discussion / Dustin set for Eurovision
January 29, 2008, 05:27:23 PM

From http://www.rte.ie/arts/2008/0129/eurovision.html

Dustin going for Eurovision gold?
One week after the deadline for submitting potential Eurovision songs to RTÉ, rumours are rife of an unusual entry.

Newspapers are reporting that Dustin the Turkey is one of the contenders, with his song '12 Points' ('Douze Points'), which may in itself be a tongue-in-cheek parody of all things Eurovision.

If the Dustin rumour is true, and he is selected for the Irish final, it will mean that the remaining five Eurosong finalists have to face one of the country's biggest and best-known stars in the race for Belgrade, where the 53rd Eurovision Song Contest will take place in May.

'The Den' legend, who has been an RTÉ star since 1990, has outlasted his fellow puppets on the show, Zig and Zag, and four human co-hosts: Ian Dempsey, Ray D'Arcy, Damien McCaul and Francis Boylan Jr.

The entertainer has previously released six albums and dueted with a number of singers including Bob Geldof, Chris De Burgh, Ronnie Drew, Dervla Kirwan and the late Joe Dolan.

Ireland still holds the record as the country with the biggest number of Eurovision wins, with seven awards.

After a disappointing last place result in 2007, RTÉ assembled a committee of music and media professionals, including 1992 Eurovision winner Linda Martin, to review the broadcaster's strategy for selecting the 2008 entry.

RTÉ received some 150 submissions and the committee will select six entries that will compete in Eurosong, which RTÉ will broadcast from Limerick in February.
