did Woodward bow to the public clamour and appoint OGS too early? If he had stuck to his guns and waited to the end of the season would they have appointed him? I think not given the end to the season. but hope springs eternal.

Not a chance! Complete madness to give him the job in the first place. He got a bit of a bounce that all new managers get and a very lucky win against PSG.
His managerial record shows nothing that would suggest he's up to the job of managing a club like United. He'll be gone by March next season and the merry go round will continue.
If anyone at United had any sense they would call an end to it now and go after Poch.

Poch with a stronger panel and players playing to their potential only finished the league season 5 points ahead of United and United have been a total shambles August to December and for the last two months.

Best thing Poch has done is leading Spurs to the CL final and the wins v Man City,Ajax on route to that final was every bit as lucky as United's win v PSG.

A squad he put together for relative peanuts and don't you think he deserves the credit for getting them playing to their potential??
He's also made them a regular fixture in the top 4.
Put it this way, if both of they were in the market for a job now, Poch would have his pick of clubs and Ole would be going back to Norway to manage the pub team he came from.

You got to remember OGS arrived at the right time and had a favourable run of fixtures against low level opposition which in all fairness Jose was making a hames of similar games, but with the dead cat bounce and some players actually bothering to put some effort in they were rewarded with some good victories.
First sign of a good team at Old Trafford was PSG and United got schooled.

Return leg with Pogba in the stands United give it a real go and whilst fortuitous with the penalty exposed PSG's soft underbelly. Credit where it's due.

The OGS fanclub of ex teammates in the media were in overdrive and it was on this wave of sentiment that Woodward was able to fill his next big appointment on the cheap and save a few more $ for the Glazers.

Everyone was a winner until...........................................

No more favourable fixtures than already relegated Huddersfield and Cardiff.  That unbeaten run included  wins against Arsenal,Chelsea (away) in the FA Cup, Leicester,Spurs,Newcastle (away) and took two valuable points off Liverpool in the league.

Did they get him on the cheap?

thought I read somewhere he was 2nd or 3rd highest paid manager in PL - £7.5 a year or something?

If that is true then Woodward is a bigger numpty than even I'd imagined.

He'd have taken the job for a quarter of that.

Edit, evidently that is true but it's half what Jose was on. still way too generous IMO.

It will contain this line Net debt as of 31 March 2019 was £301.7 million, an increase of £0.4 million over the year. The gross USD debt principal remains unchanged.

Helix.

Rashford looking set to be offered new contract with up to 300k per week.
Absolute madness from the get go. To be getting that wage after finishing 6th defies logic!
Thoughts?

Kompany leaving Man City also puts them in the look out for Harry Maguire most likely also. Hoping for as much a clear out of overpaid and bringing in bit of youth and build a team with a bit of heart again!

I don't get to see many games bar United and defintely not the Championship - how is Tuanzabe doing for Villa? Is he potentially a viable option as a centre back for United next season?

Who gives a f**k about the debt. It not as if it's coming out of your pocket. What's 300 million nowadays anyway? Couple of tours of China and that be covered.

Daniel James from Swansea agreed terms this morning.

Looks a real player

I've seen him a few times for Villa this season, think their bad patch coincided with him out injured. He needs to improve in the air, his heading is the one aspect that will stop him from becoming a really top player.

Good work from Woodie. Beat off stiff competition from Brighton.

John O'Shea at that point was very much a bit part player. A 2008 version of JOS today is a better right back than Young, better centre half than Jones, Smalling and Rojo and probably a better left back than Shaw (still might be a player there but not convinced). The defenders Utd had at that point were on a different level to most squads - never mind the forwards they had that year

Imagine if this happened. Ashley Young Captain of Manchester United. What next? Fred the Red on the right side of MF?

Not much point in some of the lads in here crying about City and their financial outlay when Utd have been in debt for a decade. Both just as bad if we are being honest - just one is seen as acceptable.

Taking on debt in itself is not an issue. All successful companies generally use debt to maximise their returns. It only becomes a problem when the company cannot pay that debt which is not a material consideration for United. I do see the United fans reasons for being pissed off with the Glazers as so much cashflow over the last decade has gone to service the debt. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do as it is a business and the fans dont own it, the shareholders do.  Plenty of shareholders sold to the Glazers at the time because the price made sense and the Glazers were then  able to force through a highly leveraged buy out and they have made a fortune off the back of this. Thats one of the dangers of being publicly listed on the stock exchange, you do not necessarily get to choose who makes a play for you.
