Way to yet again miss the point there gallsman. And way to once again attempt to minimise the examples down to one specific one. What did I say in my last post? It's not about any one specific thing he does, but rather the fact that he regularly does little things purely to entertain. Just because the video was from 2018, so what? Are you suggesting he was a different player in 2018 than every other year of his career? That he only showed personality that one season? Maybe you didnt see him joking and interacting with the crowd just last week? Handing his cue to a lad in the crowd after playing a bad shot? Pretending to sulk on the steps instead of going to his seat? Does that not tell you he has a sense of humour? Is that not a personality trait? In his game Vs Si Jiahui, with Si only needing to win the last frame, Williams took on an outrageous shot given the risk, that most players would have shied away from. Does that say nothing about his personality compared to any equally/more capable player who wouldnt have dreamt of such a high risk shot in such circumstances?

Because it was a f**king ludicrous point to introduce to the discussion in the first place.

Let's revisit the "no look" shots if you insist. You linked a video of him doing it in 2018. Again I'll ask is this something he's famed for? Does he habitually or routinely do it during matches and tournaments? No, he does not.

I have absolutely no idea why he does "no look" shots whatsoever. I don't think it's in any way famously a regular feature of his game.

He plays the underarm shot because he (in)famously prefers it to using the rest or the spider. Again, he's trying to win.

Christ gallsman give it up! You don't know why he does "no look" shots? So you are going to dig the heels in and refuse to even countenance that, maybe...just maybe....it's down to him trying to be entertaining/showing a little fun? A little....personality?

And again, you've an awful habit of taking one specific example from a list. The point is, he regularly tries to bring a bit of light heartedness/entertainment to the table when he plays, and he does so in a whole range of forms - not just by closing his eyes taking shots, or turning his head away as he strikes the cue ball, or not just by playing underarm shots when its unnecessary, or not jsut in joking with his opponent and the refs, and no, not just by sharing sweets with the audience (as a single example that you've now twice tried to minimise this discussion down to).

[Of course it plays a part in sport. I've never said it didn't.]

My point is and was that the "product on the table" you're sitting at home watching on TV today compared to 20 or 30 or 40 years ago has barely changed at all, other than for the actual standard of it going up. Admittedly you can see the table considerably more clearly since they stopped them smoking.

If your argument is "snooker is shit these days because Kyren Wilsen doesn't eat sweets with fans" I'd suggest your issue isn't with the snooker itself.

So what part would it play?

Like - could it influence shot selection in a snooker match perhaps?  Or fan interaction?

Could that shot selection/fan interaction then have a part to play in how interesting the game was from a spectator's point of view?


I don't know why you bothered typing the last paragraph, other than sheer desperation.

The biggest problem for snooker is the amount of sport, and mostly more entertaining sport we now have on tap, that viewers can watch from the comfort of their own home every day of the week. Wasn't always the case, but long gone are the days that casual viewers would have been looking forward to the world championships to break up the the regular mundane tv schedule. Used to look forward to an old James bond film on a Sunday, no more of that either.

Derry must have given up 2-05 directly from turnovers, they have too many forwards whose first inclination is to have a wee solo which resulted in them getting outmuscled in the tackle time after time. This was a clear problem in the donegal game [first game I seen so was probably an issue in previous matches] and should have been remedied before the final.

They should also have started their strongest team and this would have been a comfortable win!!!!

Anyway, just to clear it up - does the personality of the competitors play no part in any sport, or is it just snooker?
