Corn na nOg (3rd year A football)
St Mary's Belfast 6-09
St Mary's Magherafelt 2-08

There's no context but it must be the best result an Antrim school has had in Colleges football in a long time.
I believe this is the shield competition semi final.

Offaly alternate jersey looks pretty good. Limerick goalkeeper jersey horrific, Sligo very nice. See hoganstand.com for the images.

If the late hit had been given as a free CE would have had a tap over from where the ball landed and EC would not have got an easy turnover to launch an attack. Taken in isolation the two bookings do look harsh from TV pictures. But ref gets to see things once or not at all for the late hit, and sending off may have been for persistent fouling. Easy to blame him in a tight game but missed goal chance and the 45 sent wide show players make mistakes that can be equally as costly.
EC had two players who made a difference and won the game for them.

Quote from: Truthsayer on November 15, 2024, 10:55:53 AMHarte wouldn't be the most popular with many in Tyrone. I don't know anyone has a bad word on Brian Dooher or Feargal. The whole thing seemed to have gone away from them and was time for a change but held with "lack of esteem"?... quite the opposite.
I was referring specifically to their management of the senior team since the AI win, in which they like Harte in his later years appeared to face heavy criticism.

The amount of tyrone managers you lot have had you may as well call this the Tyrone thread  ;D
With the lack of esteem some Tyrone posters seem to have for their past AI winning managers Harte, Logan and Dooher it might be no surprise that some Tyrone ones choose to come to Derry.

The management team looks a bit sparse compared to the others listed. At least they have something in place they can start work on things when we know the rules for next year.

General discussion / Re: Teachers get it handy!

The last pay deal teachers got was for 2021-24 so no pay deal was agreed in any of those years, which has the knock-on effect of meaning the 24/25 pay deal has not been negotiated and is the current cause of potential strike action.
I stand to be corrected but they whilst negotiated annually they may not be agreed every year on the terms offered or negotiated.

I have no issues with what any county does in their grading. All will have a reason and I doubt any will be to make sure that their county champions will win an Ulster or All Ireland by having a  team that is too good for the level they compete at.
Cavan's structure seems to be the biggest source of complaints but their Div 1 junior champs clearly were at an appropriate level. Then Derry got a mention as league position not related to championship grade. Currently linking league and championship doesn't work for them so they don't do it, which is fair enough for me.

No I am saying that Craigbane got relegated when it mattered in the championship. Being in the same league as a team does not mean you are as good as them. In the same way the teams in the Ulster junior and intermediate will not all be at the same level. Grading by championship only should remove this as good lower grade teams will be promoted by winning their county championship and going to a higher grade.
Playing at a lower level in the league didn't stop Armagh and Dublin before winning All Irelands or being at a higher level help the 8 division 1 teams win one. I just can't agree with your argument that league position should be everything when it clearly isn't in some counties.

Quote from: Armagh18 on November 09, 2024, 09:54:44 AMIf league and championship were linked, teams like Lavey would put more effort into the league and probably not be division 2
And teams with county players would be adversely affected in league potentially finding themselves at the wrong grade. Lavey stayed senior as they did enough in their championship. Ballinderry and Craigbane went to intermediate and Junior as they didn't do enough in championship- when it mattered.
This is the point Cavan posters have been making and which seems unacceptable to some. There is no one fits all situation that you can apply across all counties.
Maybe the discussion should be on the clubs who have achieved something this year and win their championship at their level rather than the perceived fairness of the grading.

Lavey (no introduction needed) would have played intermediate championship this year if league and championship had been linked in Derry. This year they lost by a point to Glen, Senior All Ireland champions, Newbridge, winners of the Derry SFC and Magherafelt, SFC semi finalists.
Would Geneal Lee be happy to call them an intermediate side?

Quote from: OakleafCounty on November 05, 2024, 12:53:45 PMIt's not the only thing that the County Board are getting wrong.

At underage club level they are still persisting with primary school age teams being odd numbers (u7, u9, u11) while the juvinile teams are u14s etc. This has left a 3 year gap from u11 to u14 which is a nightmare for most clubs to manage. This despite all three bordering counties and LGFA having gone back to even numbers across the board. They are the type of people where, it's their way or the high way.
I think it is 7.5, 9.5 and 11.5 so by school year. But would agree that under 12 should be brought back. Starting at under 14 is too big a leap for some players. And if there can be competitive football for girls at this level how much harm could it do boys.
Under 12 development league apparently went well though that is second hand info. In fairness u14 provided a lot of games for clubs with various grades and multiple teams for clubs.

It is a football thread but Derry have the teams ranked 1st 3rd and 5th out of 8 in senior, intermediate and junior hurling. I believe this is first year of this ranking. And it is not particularly easy to rank such a small pool.
Each county is different and each county will likely try to do their best for their clubs. I doubt any put in place structures to make sure they win Ulster club championships at intermediate and junior level in either code.
