Good article in the Independent ( probably will be one of the few good articles in it for the mext 12 months ) about Copper Face Jacks in Dublin, where all the GAA heads end up after been at closing time around Croke Park such as the Big Tree, Hogan Stand etc Or when their's not a big match on, where culchie builders, nurses, civil servants etc go " fur a bit a' crack and a late wan " !!!!!

" Not that everyone is a fan -- online, punters have also complained that the place can get crowded, messy and smashed drunk by the end of the night. As someone once said: "It was love at fifth pint.......And maybe it's all the animal print or free-flowing pints, but when it comes to romance, there's a perception that the clientele aren't exactly the fussiest. Unflatteringly nicknamed 'Slappers' by some, one web surfer commented: "I always get a grip in there."

Some of you might be interested in this, it's been set up by a professional historian. Hopefully it will be well moderated and not dragged into the gutter by clowns trolling, baiting etc

So, is this a sign that ' Ulster ' is truly doomed ?

The Stormont Executive's First Minister has said Northern Ireland's future in the United Kingdom could depend on Catholics, wary of Ireland's economic woes, voting across the traditional divide.

Well let's see him come down to Dublin with their banners featuring the butchers apron to throw a party in Dublin for his team's fans just to prove his point and they'll get the a nice ' reception '  ;)

So nationalists, do we need a unionist tosspot telling you that you that Ireland is two different countries and should never have a single team ?

" Nigel Worthington has given a firm 'no' to the possibility of an all-Ireland football team.

And the Northern Ireland manager wants to throw a party in Dublin for his team's fans just to prove his point.

Worthington was in Dublin yesterday as the fixtures draw for the Carling Nations Cup was made and he would rather beat the Republic of Ireland than join them.

"Northern Ireland is a different country to the Republic of Ireland. You have your own team, you have your own nation. It's as simple as that," said Worthington. "I think every nation is entitled to their own team. I feel very strongly that the Republic has their team, we've got our team, Scotland and Wales and so on...

Carrickmacross Councillors removed a page signed by the Israeli ambassador. Well fair play to them I say. Appearently it was supported by Sinn Fein, a Green and a Fianna Fail councilor. However Foreign Affairs minister Micheal Martin criticised the council's decision but then what else would you expect from mega hypocrite in the Dail.

Obviusly the blueshirts didn't support it but then they have a histroy of admiring fascism like Franco's gang in the Spainish civil war so naturally they would be fans of the zionist state.

General discussion / Jim Stynes in battle with cancer
October 05, 2009, 12:51:09 PM
Some every bad news regarding Dublin Aussie rules palyer Jim Stynes. Very sorry to hear it. Hope he makes a full recovery but it is very serious.

" JIM STYNES is facing the fight of his life after revealing he is being treated for several brain tumours.
But the 43-year-old has remained upbeat, telling an online audience that treatment "looked positive".

Here's a good alternative video produced by Eirigi - fair play to them. Note, viiewer discretion is advised as the unionists and west brits will find the scenes contained within this video not what they have in mind when they think of their ' heros'  ;).

Interesting article from the Guardian regarding britian's military spending.
" we are already sloshing out £32bn a year on a programme whose purpose is a mystery........why we need attack submarines, destroyers, Eurofighters and anti-tank weapons. Are the Russians coming? Is Angela Merkel preparing to mobilise a few Panzer divisions? It is preposterous to suggest that we face the threat of invasion, now or in the foreseeable future. "

To me it gives an idea of the mindset of the british establishment for holding on to the six counties in order to kid themselves their still some sort of imperial military power etc. BTW britian has the highest military spending in Europe and together with America (527 billlion), spends more than the rest of the world put together.

I'm invovled in a discussion on Irish history and the needs for a United Ireland. Historically I can hold my own, but on economic matters, well lets say I'm not great. So lads - and some of you are white collar nerds etc ;D - can you give me any pointers to the long term inevitably and how the country would be better off united ??

Also, since I'll have partionists/west brits etc opposing me, could you give me the negatives of partition economically ??

Any good links anyone, I've trawled thru google but cannot find anything any good. ( BTW, I'm not a business/economics graduate, just a 'man in the street' )  Interested in knowing why the 26 was so underdeveloped. Ok I know their was the obvious ones, the Economic War the Irish state refused to continue paying land annuities, Britain put tariffs on Irish beef etc Doing a part time course on Irish history, know my stuff on the 1916, Micheal Collins, Civil War etc ut know very little on economics / business.

Also did Dev/ bureaucrats not want to embrace outside investment in a very serious way ?? And what other factors held the economy back ?

Just wondering, is Kevin Moran the only man to win All Ireland Senior ('76, '77) and an FA Cup medal ( '83, '85 ). Pretty good collection of medals for any man. Or if not a major soccer medal, then maybe an international Boxing title, Rugby, Golf, whatever, along with an All Ireland Senior ?
