Desperately sad news today with the passing after a long illness of the great Pat Brophy of Emo.
He was a brilliant footballer and best remembered at centre back for the Laois team that won the 1986 league.
He was a great club man too and a very proud Emo man. He was coaching right up to last season as he was involved with our parish minor team having been so thrilled to be part of the management of the same team in 2016 which won the county title.
He'll be greatly missed. RIP Pat.
Well I could keep it above
But then it wouldn't be sky anymore

Sad news indeed. An absolute warrior and a hero on the field, as in life itself! RIP Pat.

One of the heroes from 1986. Very sad to hear. Thanks for the memories Pat.
The real glory is being knocked to your knees and then coming back. That's real glory. VinceLombardi

Pat was a brilliant footballer and part of one of the best teams Laois ever produced.
I still think if they had got out of Aughrim that famous day they would have won at least a Leinster title if not more.

Here is the team photo from that day with Pat standing proudly in the back row at the left hand side

Have always hated Wicklow because of that day!

Ah we were gone bananas as a county anyway. If it hadn't been Wicklow it probably woulda been someone else unfortunately. We can help ourselves.

A giant of a man and decent to boot, sad news. RIP.
