Had an oul year or two around Tralee Festival back in the day.

Twas 1984 I think. Was having a beer with a friend in the Brandon who was going out with one of the contestants. (They ended up getting married a few years later and I was his best man)

Anyway, the friend says that one of the chief organisers had just whispered quietly to her "that it might be a good idea if she were to prepare a few words for the following night - don't forget the judges/sponsors etc"

So I took this as a cue to hit the bookies the next day, and give it Dixie. A monkey at 16`s took her the whole way down to about 6/4 - and she duly obliged. Winner all right!

What a great place for a weeks crack. Did the escort thing for a few years but even better crack just out on the streets, Brogue inn etc.

Now Im sitting at home watching it with the family and breaking into a laugh every so often and they haven't a clue what I`m laughing about. Bloody good job too!

Which reminds me of what I was going to say. Yes, if North Carolina was down as low as 1/2 - then by God the word must have got out again this year too........
