The under 19 is a good idea. Lets next year under 20 manager look at every young lad in the county.
There really is no need for an under 21 club championship though. It's crazy having it and it won't start for another few weeks!

. for example my own club portarlington, we have 1 u13 team , o'dempseys have 2 u13 teams and gracefield have 1 u13 team so thats 4 teams in the one town.
Bit of a stretch there to describe the area those 3 clubs cover as one town. Gracefield stretches out to beyond Cloneygowan and Cushina. O'Dempseys pick right out to the edge of Ballybrittas and sometimes into Emo parish depending on what school a lad goes to. And Killenard itself is hardly underpopulated.

Delighted for Courtwood, and delighted for the integrity of the IFC.
Mountmellick are reaping what they sowed.

They have essentially become sellswords, to use a certain lingo!
I was glad Courtwood won too but I can understand what Mountmellick did.
They always had the Reddins. Next thing as part of the rule that allows the Reddins to play with them along come 2 fine players in the Mullaneys. You wouldn't turn them away.
That said, and I'm almost contradicting myself here, maybe 2 lads from the town would have done as much as or more than Ryan and James?
The main problem, as I see it, is that the 4 lads can't play league and essentially only join the set up in July. Could that pose problems for team morale?
On Courtwood, very impressed with some of their lesser known players. O'Halloran at 4 was the free man at times when MM had a sweeper and was really good. Conor Hogan had a big game on Coss in midfield. But what can you say about Donoher? He was just incredible. Eoin George will be having nightmares about him.
Courtwood in senior next year? Not so sure they'll be the instant success some seem to think. Massive step up for a very young team. We shall see. I doubt it's on their minds tonight!

Annanough to win this by 4 or 5.

They are a first team and first teams should have the edge with three or four top class lads that a second team won't have.

It would be their first championship in 40 years!

Has there even been talk since of setting up a new club in Portlaoise?
There's a commitment in the plan to have something done on this by the end of 2018.
It's to be a juvenile club only.
Think there is something along the lines proposed in Ennis in Clare (not 100%). Would be interesting to know how that is working.
Could a second adult club evolve in the town in maybe 10 years time? It's possible but I wouldn't have any great confidence in it happening. Confey in Leixlip is a good example of how it could work. I think they might be only less than 30 years old and they've won a couple of intermediate football championships and three senior hurling championships.

Clueless. The money was given to the GAA. The LGFA have consistently turned down advances regarding a proper amalgamation with the GAA.

Ask yourself this question. If Michael O'Leary threw a million euro at the LGFA in the morning, should the local GAA club be entitled to cut?

Fair point JD and I notice some of the lads that WERE mentioned are not even playing well for their own clubs

Agreed. Not fair to name names but some of the lads seem to just have been named cause they were ex county minors or under 21's and aren't really playing well at all.

I think Mullen from Mountmellick is an excellent player who could make the step up if he got the fitness work done in a proper county team pre season.

Both Courtwood and Annanough are guaranteed places in Leinster this year even before they play county finals.
Courtwood because Mountmellick Gaels aren't a club on their own and Annanough because O'Dempseys are a second team.

Not traking up old coals but I think it needs saying
Yes. Raking up old coals is exactly what you're doing.

Any more like Rob Tyrrell up in the hurling clubs....... Not county standard for hurling but maybe good footballers. We need to broaden our football base a bit without impacting on the hurlers. I've watched a good few junior matches and also Gaels set ups with hurling clubs involved and some really good footballers involved. Wouldn't know names as people get tired of you asking "who's that lad" and move away
Ben Conroy was very good for Ballyfin Gaels yesterday.

Thought Joseph's made hard work of a very poor Strad team who played half the game with 14 after Kavanagh's stupid red.
Take Begley out and they'd be a fair bad team. Young Deegan?
midfielder might have something about him.
Town look unstoppable.

I suspect it looks better on paper than it will transpire.
Hope I'm wrong because would be a huge advocate of the actual concept. I just hope players buy into it. I'd favour confining it to players overage for next year's under 20s. They have enough to be getting on with.
