Rian O'Neill is one of Ulster's best forwards! Oisin will be a great addition to Armagh too if he gets a bit of luck with injuries.

Quote from: brokencrossbar1 on November 12, 2023, 11:54:06 AMLittle to say about the game. Too hard to rationalise so I won't. This hurts.

Well done to Trillick, best team over the hour.  Got the match ups right and McGennitys old style methods seem to be paying dividends. They will make it difficult for whoever is in the semi (likely Kilcoo) and they won't be too far off but still think they will come up slightly short.

On a PS well done to our junior Camogs who won the Ulster championship yesterday. Many clubs would kill for what we win year on year as a club. We just have to get the head down for now and see what next year brings.
rs  On paper Cross have as good or better players than any team in Ulster, certainly far better than Trillick but for whatever reason its just not happening.

That's simply a nonsense statement.

It wasn't to long ago Armagh fans were comparing Conor Turbitt to David Clifford...

Delusion at its finest.

Quit talking shite.

Two weird comments about Armagh fan numbers in this thread.

Armagh will bring a very big crowd to this. Naturally it won't match the demand of an Ulster final.

Didnt hear any chats from Down supporters that were inappropriate.

It was being chanted by a fair group outside the ground prior to throw in. Pretty disgusting.

I have no problem with lads having a few beers, being loud. Chants. It adds to it.

There is a balancing act though and so often in Clones, youngsters fall off the other side.

The booing is bad though and Armagh over the last few years have been especially bad for it.

Walking up through the Hill yesterday felt a bit uncomfortable. Nothing was going on per se, just not the most pleasent atmosphere for kids.

There were no Guards from the square right down to the barrier that I could see. Nothing, I could see, went on so maybe not a massive deal. But just a few about maybe to keep an eye on things would help.

Let's not get all high and mighty. Lot of scummy stuff from Down fans today including one disgusting chant about an Armagh player.

Men against boys. Some of the chat from Down fans in the lead up was laughable.

O'Neill bar an occasional moment was average enough. If we don't get him firing I'm not sure we can beat Derry.

Murnin is unreal.

Down players don't need much of an excuse to hit the deck and hold their faces like they'd been cleaned. Two or three were absolutely laughable.

Dunno who will start on Sunday but McPartlan deserves another dig at it for his two previous performances. I wouldn't be a big J Hall fan TBH but he has done much better the last few games too and them two probably will start again. I would bench O'Neill and introduce him to the action for the second half or earlier if needed. J Og Burns for me does not deserve to start, he's been injured and was poor enough last week. One thing we do know for starters is the following players will start and fill in the blanks after that...

Rafferty
McKay
Forker
Mackin
McCambridge (injury doubt)
McCabe
Crealey
Grugan
Campbell
Turbitt
Murnin

From the 11 above i expect to see...

McPartlan
Hall
Morgan or J Og Burns (Morgan was out for last weeks game)
O'Neill or Nugent

I think Conor O'Neill is pretty much nailed on when fit these days. Along with Forker, Mackin & JOB in defence.

When all other options are fit, I think it's two max from McKay, McCabe, McCambridge & Morgan. Maybe not quite enough transitional pace and threat going forward to carry too many of those four.

Conor O'Neill nailed on but McKay isn't, are you serious? McKay is one of the first names on the teamsheet.

I think Morgan has to start if fit, he looked really good last year and it would be good to set the tone against Down.

Armagh / Mayo this Sunday will be interesting , let’s see if the hype about Armagh is correct or was last year another false dawn.
Was at blayney and thought Armagh were comfortable in the second half but the Mayo/Galway  game was played at a far higher level .
Looking forward to it myself. Would like to think we’ll give a good account of ourselves especially at home!
Apart from 10-15 mins at start of 2nd half Armagh were pretty poor, so getting 2 points was a job well done. Mayo a different kettle of fish, Ruane will Lord MF if we line out the same. Hall to the bench, Soupy to HF and an established MFer in there.

Who though?

Crealey, two Mackins and Oisin O'Neill all out.

Is Stephen Sherifan the only reconised out and out midfielder floating around the first 26?

Rian O'Neill or Murnin may have to do a bit of fire fighting - but the latter may not have the mobility for it.

Edit: Jarly Og too, of course.

Monaghan scraped home last year and Roscommon tend to be up and down a bit too so they could drop.
It's going to be interesting to see Donegal work around the loss of Murphy too.

A fair few teams are in flux with stalwarts leaving but the betting for the top and bottom 3 looks right.
Monaghan 'scraped home' by defeating/condemning Dublin and ended up with 6 points??  that was luxury compared to one or two other years.

You literally survived with the last kick of the last game.

Kilcoo beat Warrenpoint by a point and Clonduff on penalties - would you expect either of those two sides to hammer Enniskillen?

They needed extra time against Carryduff last season and beat Ballyholland by two points and then destroyed Derrygonnelly in the Ulster final.

True - but then again they just about beat Derrygonnelly a year or two previous

I'm just hoping for a couple of competitive games...until the last 15 anyway!

Yeah who knows.

Hope so, Cargjn and Gaels will be pumped anyway.

Shows what a poor state Armagh club football is in, as Ballybay beat Cross well who walked through Armagh, and Ballybay got a 10 point beating at the weekend
Probably, although Cross are a better side than they showed against Ballybay for sure,

I'm not so sure. Anyone who has watched Armagh club football consistently over the last five years knows it's been flailing.

Yes the fact that there is no excellent team has led to an much more exciting championship - four different winners in six seasons - but the standard is probably one of the worst in Ulster I'd wager. I'd say Monaghan club football is a mile ahead of Armagh currently in so many facets.

People aren't seriously suggesting that Cross don't flood bodies back? Do people actually watch them?

They do stay true to a kicking game mind you, and have great ball winners up front to allow this. They move the ball very fast and that's why they are able to out score most tea. Brilliant forwards help too.

But if anyone really thinks Cross don't bring men back, sweepers etc, they're living in a different world.
