General discussion / Stag in Westport
February 03, 2010, 12:16:58 PM
I am organising a stag in Westport for some time in April. We know Westport fairly well so know the hotels/pubs/clubs to go to etc. We will be on the beer on the Friday night but want to do something on the saturday morning to keep lads out of the pub for a few hours.

Any suggestions on things we could do?

General discussion / iPod or creative Zen
May 19, 2009, 04:20:52 PM
I am getting one of these over the next few weeks, I just don't know which one to go with. I basically just want to listen to music in the gym, on the way to work, in the car etc. I don't need it to do anything else! I don't want to get an iPhone because I am not with O2.

I don't understand either :-[ but do you have to use itunes to download music for the ipod? Can you download music for free for either?

Anyone have either of these and would recommend it? Cheers

General discussion / Edinburgh Hotels
January 19, 2009, 12:41:02 PM
I am hitting over to Edinburgh in a few weeks time for a few days. Can anyone recommend a decent hotel(3 or 4 star)? Ideally it would be in the city center or near enough to all the main sights anyway.

Quarter-finals:
New York -v- Mayo
London -v- Galway
Roscommon -v- Leitrim

Sligo bye into semi-finals

Semi-finals:
London or Galway -v- Sligo
New York or Mayo -v- Roscommon or Leitrim

It has the look of another Mayo - Galway Connaugh final. Ros and Leitrim looks the most interesting of the quater finals, with two new management teams in place this game could go along way in showing how competitive this years Connaugh championship will be.

GAA Discussion / New Roscommon Manager
September 18, 2008, 01:02:24 PM

Fergal O'Donnell could be installed as the new Roscommon football manager as early as tonight.

While a host of names have been linked with the post, it's believed that the 2006 All-Ireland minor manager is the Roscommon county board's number one choice to succeed Michael Ryan in the role.

A garda based in Boyle, O'Donnell is believed to have been in contact with members of the board's executive in recent days and has informed them that he is allowing his name to go forward for ratification

From Hogan stand. Looks likely that Fergie will be given the job,  I guess we will know tonight either way. It would be very good appointment if it comes off. Obviously not too many would take this job on but in fairness there is alot of young talented players within the county and no better man to harness it.

GAA Discussion / Roscommon V Cavan
April 17, 2008, 12:31:06 PM
As both teams are already relegated and facing another year in Division 3 this match will not attract much attention. In saying that obviously both sides would like to end the campaign with a win and hit the championship with some level of confidence..

Hopefully our boys can give Paul Early a good send off and attract a new manager at the same time.

General discussion / The calf muscle - any advice
February 19, 2008, 02:30:52 PM
Hi all,

I have started back doing a bit of running the last few weeks - in the gym I can do 4/5 km. However I went running on the roads last night and after a mile or so my calf muscle became very thight and sore - I had to stop running and walk home >:(. I did about 3-5 minutes of general stretching before I started. I have a good pair of asics runners.

I put out my knee cap playing football over a year ago and this is the first bit of serious running I have really done since. Has anyone else had this problem. Any advice??

ROSCOMMON football manager John Maughan has accused sections of the media of having "an agenda to undermine Roscommon football."

And the former Mayo and Clare boss has said sections of the media in the county "have unrealistic expectations" and "have not been honest and fair".

Maughan's comments came in a wide-ranging interview in yesterday's Roscommon Champion newspaper, where he also says the door to the intercounty panel is open to every footballer in the county.

This follows criticism of his decision to exclude Francie Grehan and Frankie Dolan from his squad.

He said: "I felt a number of them have agendas to undermine what we are trying to do. I feel they have unrealistic expectations.

"We're going through a transition phase, I think the media have to respect that.

"There was an incident during the year that I kind of laugh at, where a certain member of the media called for my head during half-time in the game and he was the first member to run across the pitch and embrace me having won the game.

"I consider that a joke. I respect a journalist who understands Gaelic football, who knows what they are talking about but I won't sit down with people who don't.

"I quote an example when we took the team away to Portugal this year. Why shouldn't Roscommon football be entitled to go away for a training camp? It's not that this was a holiday. The records were there, the county secretary travelled with us and he will quote exactly what type of work ethic we had, what type of lifestyle we lived for the six days we were there.

"I believe a reporter was determined to try and establish where the financing of that particular trip came from. I would say that is none of his business. It would be better for him to comment on games and comment on players and comment on football affairs in the county rather than being totally focused on trying to dig up some ... I don't know what he is trying to do but it doesn't wash with me to be perfectly honest, it doesn't bother me."

Personally think Maughan is wrong here - la journalist has a job to do and in fairness the local media in Roscommon wouldnt be the worst. It was a bad year for us so no journalist can paint a differt picture. IMO it is part and parcel of the job - after the Sligo display what did he expect??

GAA Discussion / Ros Minor programme on Newstalk
June 28, 2007, 01:02:37 PM
Did anyone else hear the programme last night on newstalk about the Roscommon minors? Honestly was great radio with Paddy Joe going into overdrive explaining his love for Roscommon. Really enjoyed it. Just emailed newstalk to web cast it - can all other rossies do the same? Would love to pass it on to a few of the lads who came home from the US to it..

Also before anyone starts - we know it was only a minor final and it was last year but it means an awful lot to us!!
