GAA Discussion / Re: ABK - Anyone But Kildare?
July 06, 2012, 09:08:56 AM
I speak for many when I say (and I hope you appreciate that I am just being honest here) that I hope Cavan hammer Kildare, I hope Johnston plays and gets hammered, and I hope McGeeney gets hammered by the press for the whole big mess that his arrogance created.

Kildare people should note that this is NOT some sort of press and public backlash - don't flatter yourselves. It's a public frustration at the way you have given two fingers up to the GAA through the Seanie Johnston farce. Before it all I'd say most of the country would have been delighted to see Kildare winning (I know I would have) but McGeeney et al have stepped over the line for me and as a result we are all looking forward to giving him two fingers when you loose in the qualifiers.  What goes around comes around.

Excellent article. The fact that McGeeney has developed Kildare football is a myth. More qualifier games against poor opposition does not dispel this myth!
All he has done is made Kildare a laughing stock throughout the country. Many have lost allot of respect for Kildare through their actions and this has been compounded by Kildares arrogance over Seanie Johnston (led by McGeeney despite his pathetic claims of innocence) Are there any decent GAA people in Kildare(?) who are prepared to speak out or are they all too busy sniggering at a club hurling match thinking they are being fierce smart!

I travel through many counties with work and believe me, Kildare are detested for their actions. I expect them to continue as they have done under McGeeney and win absolutely nothing! (and create allot of enemies)

As a connaught man I have always been a big fan of Ulster football but there is little doubt that it is on the slide. I would argue that it is as poor as it's been in 20 years. The fact that you don't have any "Leitrims" or "Waterfords" means that it is reasonably competitive but that can often disguise the lack of quality. I don't think there will be an Ulster team in last four this year.

Any word on a Sligo team yet? (I'm in UK with work and getting news withdrawels). COME ON SLIGO!

GAA Discussion / Re: Pirlo in Gaelic Football

Narrower goals in GAA therefore keepers don't "dive" in advance of the kick like they do in soccer. So only an ejit would do a "pirlo" and would be extremely unlikely to get away with it.

It's probably fair to say there are no top GAA commentators left. None that GAA people really like... Michael O'M, Jimmy Smyth, Adrian Logan etc all had the X factor which is sadly lacking is modern day commentators. Sidebottom is the worst by a long way! Cringe-bottom

I'm not a fan of Sidebottom and understand why there is a thread dedicated ti his commentary, the most valid post on this thread for me is to bring back Jimmy Smyth. Why was he ever let go? He's got passion, knowledge and excitement.

Someone should give one of these to Sidebottom next time he's in Clones. Hopefully he'll bugger off on one and miss the match. He usually misses the match even he commentates!

When Spillane presented the Sunday Game a few years back I had a cousin home from America who wouldnt believe me that Spillane was a real presenter and not a comedy sketch!

Given the players Armagh have access to, are they not the most under performing county in Ireland??

Why allow a fisted point but not a fisted goal?

...because Kerry perfected the fisted goal in the 70's so they took it away. I think they should bring it back and award one on one scenarios!

The Sunday Game has gone down the tubes. Des Cathal is a bumbling bafoon and a really poor presenter. As for Spillane last night, I usually enjoy his oul nonsence but last night he annoyed me. Now he has Donegal in as 3rd best team in the country after taking lumps out of them last year. I personally detest the new era of defensive football and at least Pat was consistant in his criticism it. Now he jumps on the bandwagon. He just says anything to be controversial, doesnt matter if it's accurate. A typical hindsight pundit - zero foresight! That's why he's on a couch and not on the sidelines!

The day time show with Michael Leister is much better. The night time version is becoming cheap and tacky.

Quite simply the BBC are a bunch of amateurs when compared with RTE. Sidebottom is an absolute joke, between long akward silences.. long slow lazy commantary and regularly getting players names wrong. Useless! He'd make a good game sound like a watching grass grow. I don't like McConville either. Call me a snob if you want but his accent is one long dull drone. If you listen he has very little to say which is insightful either.
At least McHugh will offer some sort of insight into what the players do at training, how they play, changes he d make etc. Cavanagh wasnt great but sure he's only a cub.

BBC need to up their game or forget about it.

Donegal trained 6 times in 3 days last weekend! No wonder they have so many injuries.
