Hurling Discussion / Re: U14 Féile

Well one night to go.

Looking forward to our 4th Feile Weekend in a row with our hosts Tullaroan, Co Kilkenny.
Playing in Div 6 and grouped with Rower Inistioge and Cúchulainns Kanturk Co Cork.

Our lads had their final session last night and all got their new gear, grips with hurls to follow - a great build-up for the club.
Looking forward to another fantastic weekend...

See below

An additional Power of the Referee has been added as follows:

"To consult, on a needs basis, with a linesman or umpire(s) – where neutral – in order to establish matters of fact. In the case of the Umpires, this shall include consultation concerning the validity of a score when the Referee is in doubt".

This rule change gives the referee power to consult with the linemen and umpires and will be particularly relevant in the adjudication on "square balls".

Don't see any issue with the above scenario

Hurling Discussion / Re: Feile na nGael 2014
June 23, 2014, 12:30:33 PM
Managed to swing a bit of time off to make it out to our own venue on the friday and Saturday and because of the chaos in dungamnon caught all semis on the Sunday.

Corofin no 11 - a class act. Led to believe he scored 3.14 from 3.16 in a championship match last year.

The actions of the portaferry team were poor - a team who lacked discipline which wasn't forthcoming from mentors/coaches.

Although I also noticed that the derrynoose no 9 was sent off in a match on the saturday and booked in a number of others for some very poor gamesmanship.

A fantastic weekend and congrats to all with a massive effort put in by our u14 players parents management and club members.

General discussion / Re: driving debate
August 15, 2013, 10:12:21 AM
If your car gets old enough for an MOT to ensure its roadworthy then of course drivers should be retested to ensure they're roadworthy.
It would take some serious bad drivers off the road which can only be a good thing.

No it was actually Tommy Walsh, i believe there was some confusion at the time of purchase as lar was standing right behind him but not actually participating in the shopping trip

Well I cant say that Pats comments arent unexpected. Is this down to the press surrounding the injury to Michael Rice, capped off with the buildup to both finals that heavily focused the refeeres and their potential performance as well as the expectations of what each was going to 'let go'.

I just hope that this isnt a statement that leads the way to the appointment of referees that will be card happy throughout leagues and championships next year.

In a broader perpective, and as a referee myself, I feel that given the way that GAA games have developed especially in the last number of years; Hurling and Gaelic should have seperate rule books that are adapted to the needs of each sport, in particular the area of tackling.
Far too often there are debates over what is not 'let go' in Gaelic as opposed to the 'Brian Gavin' way of refereeing that is often the view as to how Hurling is refereed.

It's not that many years ago you would see a group of Dublin players all around a ball like someone trying to kill rats at a threshing. Since then their skill levels have upped considerably and that is the difference.  This thing about Kilkenny playing on the edge as regards being physical is getting a bit tiresome, they play the game as it is supposed to be played. Henry Shefflin, DJ Carey for example I would consider their two best players  over the last ten, fifteen years, neither of them were that physical or did they ever get sent off?

Jackie Tyrell for example was a walking saint ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__L1NiWbruI

Walking saint surely

Roll on Saturday and Sunday - nothing beats being there!

What's the chances of the Council in Kells, Co Meath chasing a NI registered car owner for a 40 yo yo parking fine? Just wondering like ::)

So you're to blame for the armed garda on the meath borders hassling NI cars.

Nah you should be fine, ive 3 myself - Galway, Ennis and Dundalk
