He'll be waiting to see what the likes of his home county and maybe Galway do in relation to their current managers now that they've exited the championship a bit earlier than they'd have liked.

Can't see either happening

Quote from: paddyjohn on May 28, 2024, 01:11:00 PMMicky McShane would be a good shout in my opinion. Dick O'Kane also or would Johnny Campbell or Close want to take it on? Any of the underage coaches inside the county set up ready to step up? I hope Gleeson stays on another year as it's all been positive from players about him. We'll have to pay top dollar no matter who it is from outside.

Or inside now the precedent is there.

Quote from: Capt Pat on May 26, 2024, 02:29:49 PMGalway down to 14 men against the Dubs. It has really changed the course of the game with Dublin coming back into it.

Plus they'll be against the wind in 2nd half.

A red card for me. Reckless when ball was gone.
Thought red was severe... yellow for me

Probably was an orange card, too much for a yellow but not enough for a red for me anyway.

Again this happens in any of the Munster games and its barely a foul, yellow at most. The levels of consistency are ridiculous across the country.

Antrim had a man sent off the week before for a tap on the helmet, Kyle Hayes full on welts across the neck and face and its a yellow card. Crazy.

Quote from: saffman on May 22, 2024, 01:06:18 PMInteresting set of results at the weekend

Ballycran beating St Johns?
St Endas beating Dunloy?
Ballycastle beating loughguile?

Not to many would've called them results

St Endas, Rossa & Ballycastle likely to scramble for that last spot in the top half. Who we thinking will make it?

None of the results are strange when you take in the absence of the county players on some teams.

Watkins seems to the favoured one as the back up.

Na I think Southgate has taken his chance to get rid of him now.

He has named a wider panel of 33 which will need whittled down to 26 so that leaves him some room for injuries etc with the players he has named.

He's been miles off the standard for a year.

I see Sancho who has been in decent form with Dortmund hasn't made the squad either. Jordan Henderson a regular selection for Southgate also didn't make the cut.

Sancho played one decent game, I'll give him that, but the lad is not worth the hassle I'd say

Burnt his bridges with the current English set up before he did so with Utd.

Was never even going to be in contention regardless of his form.

Rashford will be one hoping Southgate isn't the next Manchester United manager.

Don't think anyone could argue for his place in the squad, he has been abysmal.

He can take this one of two ways, he can take off in a huff and request a transfer, hopefully reviving his form elsewhere.

Or he can knuckle down at Utd and fight his way back to form and into the squad for the next world cup (unlikely as it is)

Quote from: NorthAntrim on May 21, 2024, 12:23:57 PMYes, they are competing very well. Shouldve been in place years ago

But failing to field in the reserve league as a result.

Hence my reference to everyone working together to get a joined up solution.

Loughgiel are probably the best blessed numbers wise. They have entered Div 2 as a result of limited games in res leagues over the years with (im guessing) other teams letting them down. The stronger reserve teams should play all county leagues in my opinion. The weaker play in the divisional leagues, north and south antrim and scrap these Reserve leagues

Don't disagree with your reasoning.

But then you get into a debate about whether they should play their D2 fixtures or their reserve fixtures when there is a clash and this results in other teams being let down.

I think a collective approach is required to sort this issue out.

Quote from: theskull1 on May 21, 2024, 09:25:27 AMIf your club has a senior reserve/second team, how many games have they played this year?

Does anyone else think it's a metric that's not getting much attention but should be?

How many of the games scheduled for last night went ahead?
Something needs to be done about this for sure, not an easy fix but the clubs are going to have to come together and put aside their personal interests for the general good and health of the game.

Quote from: Saffrongael on May 20, 2024, 12:33:33 PMIt looked like more than minimal contact from where i was standing, if you hit someone on helmet or face guard you are asking for trouble.

Whelan went off for a while for treatment, & as NAH said above we would have been looking for a red the other way about. Down to 14 obviously didn't help but very poor in second half and probably expended a lot of energy in the first half

How many times in both games yesterday did someone reach in and flick for the ball and catch the opponent accidently on the face guard or helmet.

I can think of at least 3 instances off the top of my head and no red cards.

Another weekend with probably more questions than answers for a lot of the teams.

Tipp need a serious rethink but even at that, I'm not seeing any young talent bursting through their current squad.

As for Davy, had the Clare selector stayed out it there would have been nothing too it. He had no need to be there at that point any way, must be some serious bad blood between the backroom teams in general.

From what I saw it was minimal contact, we get refereed in such a different way to the other teams.

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on May 16, 2024, 12:35:42 PMJust the three ;)

You's boys are touchy feckers all the same

I think Liverpool had a fantastic year and will miss big Klopp's drive

Utd can't keep 'clearing' out players every year and expect consistency

They are the media's plaything at the minute after having years of dominance they are languishing below levels they would have been at before, its as if they have forgotten Utd were relegated in the 70's, but of course football only started in the PL years 92 ;)

No quick fix, could be another 10 years at this rate, I'd be happy to have the roof fixed first

Doesn't help that many of clubs ex players are now pundits, so the focus always gets shifted back to them regardless of the storyline at the time.

There is a clear out required and a bit of reset with some control but again that isn't a one window kind of fix.
