Thats a problem too as I had holidays booked when I joined, so are you saying I should work up till next tuesday 31st (when we get paid) then just dissappear??

Or could they pursue you for the owed money?

I presume you're paid in arrears not in advance (as is the case in most companies)? In which case you wil be paid for time you've already worked. If you don't care about burning your bridges then leave whenever you want to but bear in mind that it's a small country and you could run into these guys again.

To answer your original question, you're really only obliged to give a week. Some contracts stipulate more (anything up to 3 months) but that kind of thing is rarely enforced cos the courts would side with the poor employee who was made sign a prohibitive contract preventing them from moving around.

In the health service its a week for temporary staff members and a months notice for permanent members of staff.
