Not sure what your point is. They were shown up badly. The defensive and somewhat cynical style they employed can only get you so far. As they found out.

Lol, I'd say most clubs would take a few Ulster titles and All Ireland final appearances. Slaughtneil weren't overly defensive at all and certainly weren't cynical under Moran but they seem to have become much more defensive and cynical recently, probably as a result of Devlin as coach.

I have no doubt you're correct that most clubs would take that success. But they were defensive and cynical. And sadly most clubs in Derry have followed their lead, making football in the county largely unwatchable these days. Magherafelt won a Championship with some of the worst football I've ever seen by taking it to an extreme.

I thought players wanted to play more games. Why train all year for one knockout game.
Most counties outside Ulster operate a group stage
As a player my personal preference would always be get as many league games played as possible, as competitive as possible, but get the league wrapped up before championship. Then championship should be straight knock out- peak for that one game and if you're good enough you go through and focus on the next one- if you're beat that's it for another year tough luck.

Clubs can be missing players in the league for various reasons, County,  some can be on holidays. Its a bit old fashioned with the knockout, its alright if its a U20 championship played in December. But lots of time in the summer to fit in group games which would still have edge.

No they weren't, that is bullshit. They were admittedly well beaten by Corofin in 2014 but probably would have beaten Dr. Crokes in their second all Ireland final in 2016 but for an early red card.
In 2014 they beat Cavan Gaels, Clontibret and Omagh in Ulster and Austin Stacks in AISF.
In 2015 they lost to Scotstown by 3 points in Ulster.
In 2016 they beat Derrygonnelly, Killyclogher, Kilcoo in Ulster and St Vincents in AISF.
In 2017 they beat Kilcoo, Omagh, Kilcar and Cavan Gaels before losing to Nemo after extra time in AISF.
So, in those 4 years, the only teams to beat Slaughtneil were Corofin, Scotstown, Dr. Crokes and Nemo Rangers, and only Corofin beat them by more the 3 points. Hardly describe that as being 'shown up badly'.
Slaughtneil were probably the second best team in Ireland, after Corofin, in this period. They're probably past their peak now but still a very strong outfit.

The facts are they were totally destroyed by Corofin and hammered by Nemo Rangers by 8 points, because the Conservative gameplan they adopt relied totally on edging ahead and then spoiling the game. The attacking limitations of the side were plain to see.

You are taking 'hurdler on the ditch' to new levels here, what's your club in Ty, I mean Antrim?

Lads yis may just agree with Saffronaldo. Hes stated his opinion and is now digging in. Those 5 county titles in 6yrs and 3 ulsters or whatever it was, mean nothing in this mans book and they were/are in fact crap.

Chattin to a Glen man today and he has money on them for Ulster never mind Derry. Sunday could be one for the ages as the boy says

Balls. Any true Glen man is not looking ahead to Ulster ffs  :o

Milltown Row2

We've been waiting what seems like an age for this team to develop into the potential that they have shown with the Ulster minor teams of the past..

Have they just found the key to winning the senior championship?
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought. Ea

Glen are definitely the best side in Derry(although that's not saying much these days), but this will be a victory for O'Rourke more than anything. Glen have been perennial mental midgets, but they have a very good manager who should get them over the line this time.
