There is obviously the pay dispute to settle but there is a lot more to be resolved too, namely workload agreements etc. Could be quite some time before the full settlement of all issues is sorted.

Shea Pucci with 2-00?
Aquinas and Knock would be filled with Carryduff, Bredagh and St Paul's players. The former two are two of the biggest clubs in Ulster and consistently strong at underage level so it only makes sense that that should translate into these schools. Hopefully it continues and keeps progressing.

Where do Down rank in the whole scale of things at underage and senior in terms of hurling in Ireland?

I've made the assertion previously, but really, what is the point of the All Ireland Intermediate and Junior competitions? They both just operate on skewed levels across counties and provinces. It's near impossible to streamline them in terms of club eligibility. The senior competition is authentic and balanced for obvious reasons but the other two just aren't fit for purpose.

Kilcoo were superb this year in Down at times. Looked as strong as they'd ever been. You have to remember that they were without one of the most deadliest finishers in the province, Jerome Johnston, and the physical power of Dylan Ward at midfield. They were two huge losses. That's why so much credit must go to Scotstown because they've beat a seriously strong team. The standard in Ulster is high and it can only but set up the provincial winners for a good stab at the Andy Merrigan.

When you strip it all back, the All Ireland Intermediate and Junior competitions aren't really fit for purpose. The sentiment at the time of their creation was in the right spirit. But when you look at it, both competitions operate on a skewed playing field. There are huge disparities in how counties run their internal competitions.

Down was linked and was based on your league finishing position up until COVID then it changed.

Down probably have the most honest Championship structure in Ulster, maybe Ireland. Our Junior teams are proper Junior teams. There are very few if any anomalies. That's why our record is so poor at Ulster JFC level.

Newry Mitchels, winners of four Down SFC titles in the 60's and the home club of the great Sean O'Neill are now defunct and out of being. Similarly, Ballykinlar, a team who reached Down SFC finals in the 60's and won a few JFC titles in the 90's are now folded too. Again, the club of Paddy 'Mo' Doherty as well.
