I would imagine   smart phones and therefore, shorter attention spans , to blame for the  decline in snooker viewers. Netflix as  well

Snooker has no real personalities  now.   That was part of the attraction in the 80's, in particular.  Players are just  really dull now.

I  loved  watching  the world championship back in the day , particularly Jimmy White.  I was glued  to the TV when he was on.

I don't think there's a  player who would  make me sit down and watch. Ronnie is a great player but  he just doesn't  do it for me. I've not watched a second so far, and with that  last 4 , it doesn't  look like  I'll watch much of what's left.

Quote from: square_ball on May 01, 2024, 10:02:56 PMThat's as bad a semi final line up as there's ever been.

Jones v Bingham
Wilson v Gilbert

What happened to big Ronnie Selby and  Higgins?

Who are Jones and Gilbert?

Quote from: square_ball on May 01, 2024, 04:23:09 PMWith the H is how they'd say it around Coalisland where Hampsey is from so that must be good enough for Tommy.

Now using Coalisland dialect as a reference may not be the wisest move for a commentator but I will give him a pass on this one.

So Hampsey isn't of Dutch origin then?  :o

One thing that stands out from  encountering  the coalisland (or east Tyrone ) accent ,  is pronuncing O'Neill as  Nail. eg. Stephen Nail instead of Stephen O'Neill.

Maybe Jimmy Nail  has Tyrone roots?

Quote from: general_lee on May 01, 2024, 10:54:20 AMSo we have already apportioned blame in the most recent fatalities to the deceased because of their age?  :o

The three prior fatal collisions have claimed 5 lives, all over the age of 30. The road in its current form is simply unfit for purpose.

Yes, that's what  I was thinking.  Not all accidents are youngsters in  their teens or 20's.

Also , you could be the best driver in the world , but  sometimes  you can  just be unlucky .

Anyway, awful news  again from the A5.

Just get that frigging road done!

If someone  is clearly  drunk while entering the ground , can they not be  refused entry?

There  are other events/establishments  people would be refused entry to  in such a state, so why  not a GAA match as well?

Quote from: lurganblue on April 29, 2024, 11:41:41 AMThe Armagh v Down game was as bad a game of county football as I can ever remember. There were of course flashes of brilliance but really they were few and far between. It's not even the 15 men behind the ball by both sides, it's the lack of desire and intensity to win the ball back from the opposition that really frustrates me. That little bit of quality off the bench seemed to tip it slightly in our favour. 2 great scores by the Cullyhanna men.

The referee completely bamboozled me with his calls throughout the match.

I see some posts about the Armagh crowd at the game. I arrived to Clones pretty late and went straight to the ground. I have to say it was noticeable the amount of really drunk young ones, and a large Garda presence. Not just a few pints, but in bad shape. I wondered was it because of the 5.15 on Saturday game but I'm probably deluded in that.

Were  there any incidents re: the buckfast gang?

Quote from: 5times5times on April 27, 2024, 09:29:02 PMOn a sourer note, the actions of the armagh contingent on the hill is becoming a black mark against the county.

Riot police had their hands full all afternoon. An embarrassment and unlikely even affiliated with any clubs.

Stay well clear ulster final day!

There's riot police  at GAA matches now?

General discussion / Re: Car Insurance!!!!!

What's the deal with  your car insurance when changing  jobs?

Are you meant to  let your insurer know if you  started  a different line of work? (eg. moving from  an office job  to a sales assistant?)

And  do you need to notify them if say,  you became unemployed/or  became a full time  carer for someone ?

Slot deal confirmed .

Sounds like a  bit of a gamble. Or  he could fit right in.

I'll get me coat.

Quote from: Shamrock Shore on April 26, 2024, 01:08:16 PMDoes sitting on a train, travelling through a country but not setting foot on it, count?
Or transitting through an airport?

I'll leave out flying over its airspace!!

Aye, technically you had both feet  in the country.  As well as the rest of ye  ;D

Airspace, nah.

How about if the plane lands, but you do not get out?

Well, the tyres of the plane  would have earthed  you to the ground , so we'll count  it

I did that once  on the Isle of Man.  Never actually  stood on the island , but I'm claiming I've  been there
