General discussion / Re: Running

Marathon coming up now in a couple of weeks and trying to decide on a strategy to hit my time, wondering if any of you have something that you stick with.  I've three in my head but don't know which to go with yet:

1. Try and keep a consistent pace the whole way around and try and hit the halfway mark bang on 2 hours and then hope I have the legs saved to keep the same pace for the second half

2. Let the 4hr pacer out ahead of me by 5 mins and then catch and overtake them.  As long as I finish ahead of or with them, I have my time as long as they are on the money.

3. Go out and try and run the half in around 1.50 when the legs are fresh and give myself a cushion for the second half if I start to tire.

I ran 10k last night in 57 mins and wasn't pushing the whole way so sort of edging towards option 3.

If the ball moves in the rough when you address it does it count as a foul?

Probably not great to watch on TV but it was brilliant to watch live. Where the TV focuses on the man holding the ball it doesn't show the off the ball effort that goes in. Thought derry played very well but need to tighten up on kickouts. Our own are a bit slow and obvious and they weren't switched on for Donegal's who got out too easy at times. Rogers is some athlete and Glass very composed. Would agree it was a penalty at the end but we will take our luck. Had forgotten what days in Clones were like but I'll be a long time forgetting this one. Looking forward to a good run now and to keep building.

Does anyone know of a park and ride on the N4 near Dublin? Heading to Galway for a weekend and trying to arrange somewhere to meet my lift over. Somewhere to park Friday and Saturday, back again on Sunday

Could it be the difference in the fact they are playing for a team and for other people rather than playing to win something for themselves that changes their feelings on it? Golf is an individual game week in week out for them, and if they lose or come close to winning it is an individual achievement, but the Ryder Cup is about doing it for the collective rather than the individual. I understand why the European lads are dying to get another crack at them because I have been on teams and got hammered and you are itching to put it right. Whereas would Hovland (for example) be dying for a rematch against Morikawa if he came 2nd to him in a Major? Or would he just try and win a Major rather than beat a specific opponent? As a spectator, the Solheim and Ryder Cups were great to watch this year.

Are there any esb manholes in the footpaths around or are there pillars close by they could take a feed off? They normally try to make new runs go underground rather than overhead.

Anyone remember the spotlight programme about the Holylands? Some craic explaining that to the parents. It was around the mid 2000s. Best days of my life and made some great friends along the way.

There was a few, one of the wrecking and one on the state of the houses that followed.

I was down in those days - Declan Boyle was the one got the brunt of that, he converted a load of houses into 3 floor flats and some of the rooms didn't meet basic regulations. I know a few boys got their money back over all that, Belfast council into houses with measuring tapes, the lot.

The one with the wrecking was bad enough viewing, men playing hurling up the street....only thing surprising was they were Tyrone boys 😂

St Patricks day was the day I hated the most down there though, the Holylands just became an excuse to behave like animals....majority students, but there were a right lock just landed that day for the carnage.

Still though, come those days in April and May and the sun out, being a student in Belfast was as good as it got.

The blue reek and the smell of disposable barbecues the first dry day in April even it was only 10 degrees outside. Some memories

'Famous' Eating Houses up in Belfast....

Spud's (wasn't keen on it!)

Bishops- possibly the place across the road!? Not bad...

McDonalds (Next door- think they shut it down)

KFC Shaftburys Square (Literally taking your life into your own hands)

Esperanto's (burn your head off as well as you arse sometimes!)

Empire- Meal Deal (not great!)

Kam- Wah (taking your life into your own hands visiting that wee hatch!)

Centra (always handy for a roll!)

Subway (the same!)

Julie's Armpits (Maybe became a Harry Ramsden's??)

Maggie Mays (useful for when the loan came in- also bring your own bottle!)

Temps (anybody remember when these guys employed their own DJ- such was the crowds in there after the bars/clubs had finished lol)

Sit in Chinese across the road (useful for when the loan came in- 3 courses for £10)

Queens Chaplaincy (more a home-made vibe about it- not bad)

The Bot (See Empire Note)

Cafe Nostra (Ormeau Road- not much crossing over the Ormeau Road in my day)

Baracuda (Ormeau Road)

Helen's Bakery (Ormeau Road)

French Village (Stanmillis)

Movie Star Cafe Botanic Avenue (for a bottle of beer, Chilli Con Carne.....never bothered with desert lol  ;))

Holylands Spar (Hangover Jambons etc)

Anywhere else???

Have to add The Emerald Chinese down the Dublin road and Ruschi on the Ormeau Rd to this. Helen's was a great fry after a night of pints in the Hatfield.

Thanks for the replies, wasn't sure if you could just put it in a skip or if it had to be treated differently. We were looking at getting someone to do the work but I have a notion of doing the donkey work myself to save a few quid.

Sorry if this is covered already but where can you get rid of a lawn and soil if you are putting down artificial grass?

Piers Morgan . . . Thank f**k!!

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

The big baby took his ball and went home as soon as someone stood up to him. Funny how he saw fit to remove himself from a situation he didn't feel comfortable in, but didn't allow others the same right. He was good at putting it up to politicians but overall just a big airhorn of contrary opinions

Fucks sake, what happened the you have to win by 2 legs in deciding set???
Couldn't do it because they had a crowd at the first night and there was a 10pm curfew in London. And because they couldn't do it then it had to carry through the tournament.
