Looking at the Corn na nÓg squad list for St Colman's today and I was struck by the limited numbers representing Armagh clubs. Seems much lower than what it once was.

Quote from: gawa316 on December 14, 2024, 05:21:08 PMWould've taken that score after Robbo got sent off and defo after they went 2-1 up. Arsenal draw helps as well

Really annoys me how none of the pundits are willing to call out Slot when he gets it wrong. Quansah is a back-up centre half and Gomez is a full back that's just how it is. With lost 4 points since Konate and Bradley got injured because he can't see it. Gomez gets to Fulham's 2nd goal today and shepherds it out. Newcastles 2nd goal wouldn't have happened had each been playing in their natural position.

Gomez was playing at left back and Quansah in middle when Fulham scored their 2nd goal?

Drumgath have won 2 Intermediate titles in last 20 years to my mind, both from Div 3.

Clann na Banna would have played Div 1 in 2015.

I watched the first half of Armagh v Kerry final from 2002 last night. First time seeing it since I watched it live. As a spectacle, it was great, free flowing and great individual battles going on all over the field.
I was struck by how much ball Armagh kicked away in the first half whereas Kerry were a bit more methodical in their attacks, threading balls into their full forwards as opposed to the long diagonals.
Just felt watching it that Armagh could have done with someone getting on the ball and slowing things up, dictating play a bit more and not having it as chaotic.

The way football is now makes you look on that sort of tactic as a bit alien but it can still be effective. Armagh also looked second best at midfield. Darragh O'Se was a monster.

Just watching any game from that era or before makes you realise how negative an impact the forward mark has had on the game. Has to go. Stevie McDonnell caught one long ball, landed, turned and over on his left without thinking. Skill that's been taken out of the game to an extent with the percentage option being favoured.

I was 16 and a Down man in school in Newry. Great nostalgia of watching that successful Armagh team. Looking forward to the second half tonight. Hoping Kerry can hold their lead. ;D

Commentary predictably insufferable.

O'Shea looks likely to get it. Don't think he has done anything really outstanding but maybe he could grow in the job. Certainly a higher ceiling than Kenny.

Smallbone put in a nice cross for the goal. A few too many sidewards merchants in the team. Ireland were at their best when they tried to play forwards but that wasn't often enough. Some players don't show enough energy and just stroll about doing very little.

Parrott should have squared to Szmodics but got lucky and the ball went in the net for the second goal.

Not sure if it's been better performances the last couple of games under O'Shea or just the optimism of a new regime. To be honest I don't really think any manager would get them going places right now. It has to be about small steps of improvement. Probably a campaign or two away from being capable of challenging for qualification. Euro 28 at home may be their best bet.

Anyone else run it? Support fantastic as always.

First time marathon yesterday. 3.34. Couldn't get over the support. On a soaking wet day too. Class experience from start to finish.

Spurs well off the hook there. Celebrating like they won the league

Officials have a lot to answer for. The quality of refereeing has deteriorated over the last few years. With VAR there the safety nets are there. They make the percentage decisions instead of trying to get the correct call in real time.

Jones red card harsh but understandable.
Diaz goal clearly onside. Was it even checked?
Jota first yellow not a yellow as player running and clipped his knee with his leg. But silly on the second one when he knows he's on a yellow.
Felt sorry for Matip. He was excellent all game.
Liverpool will take more from the game than Spurs will. Really enjoyable team to watch.
Liverpool 2.0. Never a dull moment.

Referee in Kilcoo game seemed to think that a foul must be a card. Kilcoo holding their head time and time again when tackles not high. Carryduff's frustrations were understandable. The Donnelly one on Brannigan was late and dangerous. Other than that there wasn't too much in the others. James Guinness very unfortunate I thought.

And what difference would either of those make. He is the manager, again he looked lost along the line yesterday and frequently clueless. Not sure what Mc Guinness does on match day but all of his other men don't seem to have much input or influence. I'd have Mc Guinness along the line and just let Laverty be a coach as he hasn't a clue how to be a manager.

Explain how he looked lost. What did you see that leads you to that conclusion?

Joe has been given his orders.

Mc quillan is the  most infuriating referee  I've ever seen .  I'm all for having respect for official s , but by Christ  he makes it so hard  for people to do that.  Those two very soft frees  effectively won Kerry the game . I ain't from Derry but I am absolutely raging . I dunno how Derry folk are feeling

They were both fouls.
