Is the whole "being Irish" a sticking point for some people. I did karate and played American football without being Japanese or American. I have no problem with recognizing that they are Japanese and American cultural activities and would never seek to diminish that in any way.

The point is they are great sports in their own right and there's no need to use the Irish label as a selling point, because for many people it's not. I doubt if many people take up martial arts because they think it's cool to be Japanese.
