Israel wants to get the US involved.

They know this wont happen unless Israel is attacked so they are trying their hardest to get someone to retaliate.

If there is a large scale retaliation for this then we wont be far away from WW3 unfortunately

Surely any money pumped into H & W would be better served going into health, waiting lists, schools, roads, water etc etc?

Quote from: NAG1 on September 16, 2024, 01:16:53 PMThe short sightedness of those celebrating this decision is extraordinary.

Is it?

Or rather, is it the understanding the ongoing maintenance burden would place on the Ulster Council?

Looking at the 2024 annual report here, and the expenses for Croke in year ending 30th Sept 2023 (page 194/195) were in around €16 million.

Some of those will be dependent on numbers of games played, and some will be independent of it.
Could probably approximate half of it as being independent of times the stadium was open, or €8 million.

Croke is 80k, Casement 30k - factored down for size that is €3 million a year. Just to keep the place right.

Even if we accepted Croke would have a higher proportion of business seats/exec boxes etc, your still likely looking at over €1m a year.

That is untenable for the Ulster Council!

So you run one large scale event to cover the running costs.

Not that difficult, the opportunity that it would bring to city and the region is massive and is now a massive loss. It wasn't just for matches and for concerts here and there, it was designed to be a conferencing centre etc so there were income streams built into the process all through.

It wouldn't be down to Ulster Council solely either.

Once it is built it can still hold conferences/concerts etc?

Quote from: illdecide on September 16, 2024, 10:07:00 AMI see now this morning a figure of £450m has been used...WTF. I'm hearing the figure on the Tender Doc's in £285m. There is no other way to dress it up other than we have been shafted...GAA was promised a Stadium in line with the other two sports and it was reneged on.
Wrong!

Ulster GAA was promised a £62m share of the (aborted) Maze money, which along with their own £15m, was to be used to build a provincial stadium on the site of Casement. This was in 2010.

Meanwhile, the IFA was also promised £62m and Ulster Rugby £20m, for them to spend on their own stadium needs. Both of them managed to get what they wanted within budget and on time*.

The GAA didn't manage it, however, primarily due to submitting a design which did not meet H&S requirements (chiefly evacuation in the event of an emergency), plus failing a judicial review by local residents. This was entirely down to the GAA, exacerbated by the suspension of Stormont for extended periods, plus construction inflation etc.

All of which was long before the Euro's were awarded to UK/ROI in 2023, which then became the GAA's last, desperate "Hail Mary" to extract hundreds of millions of extra money from HMG, at a time when there is no money for schools, hospitals, roads and pensioners etc.

So you can blame Labour, Tories, DUP, soccer etc all you like, but the sole responsibility for getting into this mess in the first place lies squarely with the GAA and no-one else - it need never have come to this.

* - Windsor was delayed a few months for a problem caused solely by BCC, but it was no big deal in the scheme of things, since the ground reopened in early 2016.

Pulling Casement will have absolutely zero impact on money being allocated to schools, hospitals, roads etc

Most GAA people couldnt give a flying if the stadium is built for the Euros or not. Sure it would have been nice to get to attend a few games, but in the grand scheme of things the stadium will still be built and GAA games will still be there.

Its the handwringing and celebrating from many 'commentators' that makes this almost laughable.
Celebrating OWC missing out on the Euros - not to mention the benefit to the economy is the biggest short sightedness you can ever think of

Hearing Clogher and Augher are close to combining at senior level. What would Darragh Kavanagh do then? Would his transfer request be denied again by Errigal. Cookstown should let their minor team play the Play off game, be more useful than the senior team. Good crop of minors coming through all the same, should be challenging for a Junior/Intermediate Championship soon. That's if they can stay out of MOES.

Insulted a few clubs in one post.

Hogan stand wouldn't get a look in lately on here.

I did want tickets but didnt get them.
If I had got through the queue after waiting for hours I would have paid the dynamic pricing for them - purely because of how long I had waited.

But in the cold light of day I am delighted I didnt end up paying that amount for tickets.

The two happy go lucky chappys who are all about the fans are absolute leeches who have fucked over those same fans

Quote from: trueblue1234 on August 23, 2024, 12:57:12 PMYou wouldn't get it for £100 but it also shouldn't be near 5 figures. Taylor's right in his range imo.

I def dont want to pay for it out of my own pocket as the damage had zero to do with me.

Similarly I dont want to go through the insuranace as would end up even more out of pocket with the excess and future premium rises.

Where you getting that?  ;D
That's what it cost me when some clown scraped up the side of me 3 years ago

Going to cost between £600-£800 to repair
