With two teams remaining we can have a look at the certs and the non-runners.

Quarter-Finalists
Derry, Roscommon, Dublin and Louth will get a handful of nominations, but I can't see anyone from those counties getting an All-Star.. Maybe one for Mulroy at a push.

Semi-Finalists
Kerry will also struggle to pick up the individual awards. O'Beaglaioch, O'Sullivan and P Clifford are probably the best placed to do so, just about. But no other stand out performers this year.

Donegal have a few that are thereabouts- Gallen, Mogan, McHugh and Langan maybe played himself into one yesterday.

Finalists
For Galway the like of Finnerty, Maher, Conroy, Silke and McHugh are probably out in front.

For Armagh Hughes, McCambridge, Grimley, O'Neill, Grugan and Turbitt with Conaty picking up the YPOTY.

The final will ultimately decide the outcomes for a few of those players.

Interesting development by the GAA, some inter county managers definitely won't be happy with them taking control of team announcements like this.

The GAA are planning to publicly announce squads on the Fridays before senior championship matches from next year onward.

Counties are currently instructed to provide team sheets to the relevant organising body for match programme purposes no later than 9am on the Thursday before a weekend fixture.

However, several counties communicate their line-ups with the proviso that they are not to be issued to the public until they themselves publish them. When they do, a number don't include their 11 substitutes.

The GAA are to release the team and substitute lists more than 24 hours before the first matches as a means of promoting the games as well as cutting out the possibility of leaks.

It is envisaged the move might prompt counties to announce their line-ups before Friday. The Thursday morning registration, which prevents counties from making 11th-hour changes to their squad unless in an emergency, was voted in at Congress in Páraic Duffy's time as director-general as a way of combatting dummy teams.

Penalties for not providing the 26-man list included the withdrawal of sideline privileges for the manager for one match and a fine of up to €1,000 for the county board.

Forfeiture is the punishment for fielding a player who has not been registered on the list provided to the referee.

The lack of consideration in the rules for late injuries and sickness has been regularly condemned by managers and there have been some instances where less than 26 players have been available as the deadline for personnel changes had passed and injured men have togged out with no intention of being used.

Match regulations state for non senior inter-county championship games the teams are to be issued to the committee in charge for the official programme and media four days before the game although it is rarely respected, while for league games, the home county must receive team selection from the visitors no later than Wednesday prior to the fixture.

For Saturday games, several of the leading counties in both codes make their team disclosures the night previous.

The team so far is:

Now that we are down to the last 4 teams in the race for the All Ireland title, what are the chances that those already eliminated will pick up All Stars.

Donegal should pick up a few nominations for the likes of Murphy, McHugh, Brennan, McBrearty and Patton. But, despite winning Ulster and only losing one game, they will only pick up a maximum of 2.

Cork, Meath and Roscommon combined might only get a couple between them if that.

From an Ulster perspective the likes of McKiernan (Cavan) and O'Neill (Armagh) could get nominations, but have no chance of the award.

Derry scrapped by 14man Down by a solitary score at home.
Wexford destroyed Down at home.

It's clear who must be the favourites for this one.

Another one-sided encounter?

I was going to post this on the Liverpool thread, but thought that Penalty Decisions should have its own thread.

The above link is to the Manchester Utd v Chelsea FA Cup Final in 1994.  David Elleray was the referee. 

Utd were given two penalties that day:
1. Foul on Irwin (watch from 1min)
2. Foul on Kanchelskis (watch from 3.30min)

The foul on Irwin was a definite penalty and a ridiculous tackle by Newton. 
The second decision most people would say it was a penalty, but the Utd player went down easy looking for the decision.

There is a lot of talk on the Tyrone v Mayo thread about handy/soft/easy frees that were awarded to Mayo.

What is everyone's definition of such a free?

A. Is it one were contact was accidental?
B. Is it one where the tackler has committed a foul but only a little bit? (Wee tug on the geansai)
C. Is it one where the contact is the norm for a physical game?

Any ideas?

Fenlon quits as Derry City boss

Pat Felon has resigned as manager of Eircom Premier Division club Derry City after just five months in the job.
The former Shelbourne boss, who took over from Stephen Kenny at the Brandywell, has yet to announce the reasons for his decision.

Derry have struggled at the start of their first season under Fenlon and the Candystripes lie fifth in the league, 11 points behind leaders St Pat's.

City could only manage a draw with basement club Longford on Saturday.
