Kerr replaced in the line up.

How did Galway let them get the short kick away on that last play? Complete switch off.
#3
Bad call on the advantage with Galway through on goal.
#4
Bad call there. Definitely wide.

Quote from: Cunny Funt on May 28, 2025, 11:08:29 PMTyrone fully deserved their win. On the balance of play 5 to 7 point margin would be a better reflection.  14 points separated the sides at the end with how ruthless Tyrone was and Louth far too wasteful. All the Tyrone players talked well after the match all knew they were in tough game regardless of the margin in the end, sounds very competitive at club and schools level and that keep them ticking over for the U20 grade.

Should be another Ulster winner of this competition next year with the last two U17 All Ireland finals all Ulster finals.
Tyrone's team over the next two years wouldn't stand out as much as the previous 4. Although Conor Devlin, Conor O'Neill and Ruairi McCullagh are still underage which is a good starting block. Derry should be the front runners for the next two seasons.

Derry are indeed the team to watch at this age group for 2026 and 2027.

Derry's two AI minor victories probably put them in the hotseat, but Monaghan, Tyrone and Donegal will all be ready to take on that mantle.

If memory serves me right Tyrone probably should've beat Monaghan in their Ulster semi final (Minor 2023) but couldn't close out in normal time or extra time despite being 4/5pts up both times. And only lost on penalties. They'll be keen to right that wrong.

Monaghan will be out for revenge having lost the 2023 Ulster and AI finals.

Four Masters and Abbey Vocational have produced a couple of very good teams in the last two years, and almost took out Tyrone this year in the U20s.

So next year's Ulster will be ultra competitive.

I'd say the defender was as much to blame as the keeler for the second goal. He'd no need to be inside the arc and that definitely confused the keeper.

GAA Discussion / Re: Armagh v Derry. Group 4

Quote from: Armamike on May 25, 2025, 10:46:06 PMI wouldn't over analyse the last 10 mins of that game. We lost control at midfield when the changes were made and Derry went for goals. There are things the team can learn from that, but better it happened in a game that was basically done than getting mugged in a closer one. Happy enough where Armagh are at the minute.

The changes shouldn't have had that big an impact on the last ten minutes when you consider that the Armagh subs probably had more AI Final appearances between them that the Derry subs had C'ship appearances between them.

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on May 25, 2025, 10:52:39 PMHow many supporters did Derry have there yesterday? I was behind the left goals and I say it would been near 50+ to 1 supporters in that end.

Difficult to say. Certainly more than the League game v Armagh. But that was a pitiful crowd.

Was in the covered terrace close to the Niall's Crescent end. There was only a small handful in that area.

In fairness, I was surprised that they allowed free movement between the terraced areas. I thought the tickets were set for specific locations - and stile entry.

The kickouts at both ends of the field are  still killing us... And the fact that its so obvious is more annoying.

Once Rafferty was forced to think about the kicks he started to struggle.

McKinless had a couple of opportunities to hit shorts in the first half, but either didn't fancy it or didn't see it.

Toner will run all day, but at times he was completely mismatched on kickouts ended up on Duffy in midfield a few times

Maybe Armagh switched off, but Derry started running at pace and looking for the forward pass in the last 10mins. Higgins and Glass took there goals well, unfortunately it was Rogers on the end of 3 of the other goal opportunities. Rafferty made a couple of decent saves too.

McGuigan's and Glass's wides were costly too at the stage of the game.

Thought Glass would've come off - even for a check - after that hit in the middle of the field.

Hopefully the likes of Murray and Bradley will be available for the next two games.

In the Irish News Tally states that Forbes, McDermott, Rogers and McEldowney have joined the squad. Tohill is back in full training. And McCloskey making progress.

Quote from: naka on May 12, 2025, 10:51:24 AM100k were at the two games
there was drunken ness and a few fights but at least 95%  of the public were there for the games
i remember as a child in the 80s watching guys drunk rolling down the grass bank at clones so it hasnt really gotten much worse save for the drugs

need to bear this in mind and not tar everyone. Plenty there will have had pints and not been involved in anything untoward. Checks on bags/people going in need to be stricter
I don't think bag checks are the problem I had a bag with me on Saturday and it was checked thoroughly it's what goes on before hand or lads maybe having spirits mixed in a bottle that aren't detected.

Attended the '22 and '23 Ulster Finals (O'Duffy Terrace) with family. Couldn't believe the amount of alcohol that some lads managed to get into the grounds. Cooler bags filled with cans. Some around us had beer/cider bottles too. Seemed to be more checks on those walking up the hill from the town, than there was from the other side. Even then it was a tick box thing. The few stewards that were there weren't gonna challenge too many lads or ladies with back packs.

Quote from: AustinPowers on May 11, 2025, 06:17:23 PMTeams running  down the clock until the hooter  is a hateful  bollox of a thing. Louth and Donegal did it for 4-5 minutes.

They should make  the rule where the ball should go over the end  line to finish the game . At least then  there'd be none of this  piggy in the middle sh*te and teams would  have to attack , to kick a score or put it wide

Not even sure that would work because you could do the same thing but then kick it out over the end line. Unfortunately this is supposedly more exciting than how things used to be.

Yes but the team running down the clock would have to  enter the opponents half,  to get that kick over the end line after the hooter.

It wouldn't prevent  the 3-4 minutes of tootling about with the ball , but it would at least give it a bit of jeopardy, as the other team could turn them over , and counterattack.

Team A can only run down the clock if Team B allows it to happen. There is no jeopardy if there is little to no pressure on the ball carrier.

Towards the end of extra time yesterday. Cawley threw the ball in and the clock restarted at 17.57, outside of the foul from Rafferty how many Armagh men got close to a putting in a tackle or hand on a Donegal man.  It was only when the game entered the last 30secs (after the free kick)that Armagh started really harassing and going after it.

Yeah, two hands push on the chest and he's says that there was little contact, despite the replays

Quote from: Topmarks on May 04, 2025, 04:02:37 PMAnyone know if any county men have played for their clubs in the last couple weeks / anyone new added to the squad?

Five/six of the u20 squad have been added to the senior squad after they exited their championship. Can't imagine any will get gametime, but good to blood them into the setup for next year.

I'd actually expect (hope) that a couple of them would see significant game time. I think that Tally is still starting and even relying on two or three lads that haven't set the world alight for some of last year and most of this year. It appears that for some it's harder to get off the team than it is to get on. Improved competition for places would seriously help the squad.
