Gallas was always a terrible choice for captain. Gilberto has been ostracised for his public disgruntlement over the choice (to the detrement of arsenal's title aspirations) and his strops and disloyalty at chelsea should have been warning enough about the strength of the man's character. gallas' public criticisms of teammates recently are unbelievable from the captain of a team at the sharp end of a crumbling title challenge.

there would not have been any point making gilberto captain considering he is not getting a game. Toure has been away on african cup duty with ivory coast so how would he have captained when he was not there. That left gallas as the choice of captain.
Now i am not his biggest fan as captain. He is a good centre back and indeed a versatile player as he can play in a either full back position too, but he does seem to have a tendency to be distant from other players and imho is not the best motivator ala adams and viera. But at the time he was the best available to be captain. Someone who has already won a championship and has premier league experience.over time we will see cesc, denilson & maybe diaby develop the traits necessary to be a great captain.

Diabby (31) sent off for a very dangerous tackle. Will be interesting to see to see if Wenger seen the incident!

Mission accomplished!

slow corner back

I think Bolton are down alright given the other results today, not so sure about arsenals title challenge though, six points behind with six games to go.

from arsenal.com
Arsène Wenger admits that Abou Diaby deserved his red card at Bolton on Saturday but dismissed comparisons with the tackle which left Eduardo with a broken leg and a dislocated ankle.

Diaby was sent off after sliding in and catching Gretar Steinsson with his studs raised at the Reebok Stadium. The Frenchman's dismissal left Arsenal a man down as well as a goal down but Wenger had no complaints.

However, the Arsenal manager insisted that Diaby's tackle was not as bad as Martin Taylor's challenge on Eduardo at Birmingham last month or indeed the lunge by Sunderland's Dan Smith which sidelined Diaby for nine months in May 2006.

"I knew the injury [to Steinsson] was not bad," said Wenger after Arsenal's 3-2 win at Bolton.

"Diaby certainly hit him but it was not comparable with what happened [to Eduardo] a few weeks ago. Diaby's tackle was a fraction high but as long the foot is off the ground you cannot complain.
"Diaby was injured and out for nine months but that tackle [from Smith] was very bad. It was malicious. Diaby's tackle was not malicious but your intention does not count. It is where your foot is that counts."

i think this shows wenger is not complaining about the sending off
