"United Trinity" Denis Law George Best and Bobby Charlton all gone now RIP.

BigGreenField

The King is dead...Best Law & Charlton.
In an era of centre backs who committed gbh against attackers they played the game with grace, skill and steel.

Sad news. He came across as  a nice man. His football career was  too early for me , but I always associate him with the  backheeled goal . And the long sleeves (apparently  so he could wipe his nose)

The backheeled goal didn't seal utds fate, they were dung the whole season

He was an amazing player, in fact very underrated
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

Yup, that's why I didn't say that. United were  relegated even  if Law hadn't scored that goal

Apparently, Alex Stepney the goalkeeper was joint top scorer that season.

RIP Denis. A true legend of the game.
Nearly every kid in the playground used to pull their shirt down over their wrists.
KRO.

He died in old age unlike several of his co-musicians

Yep, only himself and Robbie made it to an advanced age. Levon died of cancer at 71, but that's not old in this day and age.

Rick Danko and Richard Manuel both died early due to drugs. You can hear them on songs like the weight.

Hard to believe I saw him play in the Spirit Store in Dundalk. The band had finished their set and were going to play an encore but before they started about 5 OAP hippies raced the stage looking for autographs off Garth.

Bit of a comedown from the Dylan and their own arena tours of the 60s and 70s! A bit like Meat Loaf playing gigs in Bundoran back in the 90s before Bat Out Of Hell 2.

From what I remember from Levon's book (apart from the bitterness towards Robbie!) the fact that they were reduced to scraping a living in the 80s by playing in small shitty venues was partly, in addition to the addiction problems, what led to Richard Manuel's suicide.

Yep, both tragic cases.

Danko is buried in Woodstock in the same graveyard as Levon. Rick has only a tiny stone marker (one of those flat ones you often see in the US) whereas Levon, who was a major figure in the town (his legacy still is with his studio/venue) has a lovely decorated wooden backdrop to his headstone.
