A lad gave me a tip a while ago for a horse that "will win if it starts", that I then completely forgot about. I was talking to him a week later and remembered. "Did that horse run?", I asked.

"No. It walked"

I see he's now 3.2 on the exchanges! Though you can still get 16-25/1 elsewhere. (25 on Wm Hill, 20 PPower). Has everyone here had a go on Betfair?

That's right Croí - that was the clearest trip you could ever see. Equally clearly, it was a complete accident and I think that's why McEnaney didn't give it, which is wrong. I's not the referee's job to read his mind. It's a foul whether he meant it or not, but as Billy says there are always a few dodgy ones either way.

Or put the Wolfe Tones in it like Finland last year.

(Hint about the vote for Britain - as mentioned above, Latvia and Lithuania got big votes from Ireland too. If Poland had been in it, they'd have got the deuze points. The only other country that voted for Britain was Malta. There's more Brits than Maltesers in Malta.)

I thought the refereeeing yesterday showed improvement too. In general it looked as though both referees were under instructions to avoid excessive card-waving, allow the physical clash and be aware of overcarrying and forwards looking for frees. I even thought I saw one forward being penalised for falling for nothing - free for handling on the ground. That's the stuff. They also seemed to favour the high catch at midfield, with several fairly easy frees being given to lads who were surrounded when they brought down a high one. That's good to see.

There were still too many frees given to forwards who fell when a man was behind them, whether they were touched or not but overall, the signs were hopeful. Of course, we've yet to see the real experts at free-falling and the next couple of weeks will tell a lot, not least the first appearance of Micko's latest franchise.

It was a clever plot by FF and their Castlerea stooge to divert attebntion from Bertie's financial foosterings, by manufacturing an even bigger national crisis.

I heard some senior RTÉ executive this morning, summoned by Morning Ireland to account for this national embarrassment and to explain at once what she was going to do about it. I was delighted to learn of her grasp of the situation and reassured that as long as these people are in charge, there's no chance of us ever being saddled with hosting this tripe again. For example, she pointed to the fact that Ireland gave big votes to Latvia and Lithuania as evidence that Irish people were in the forefront of the new eastward movement in European pop!

Finger on the pulse or what?

And Hardy, I'm glad the bet came good. Looked shite at half-time!

The bet came good OK but in a fit of madness I lumped the winnings on Down at 7/4. Looked like great value until Mickey McFumble did his thing. Thanks Mickey.

Great stuff from Longford. It was like supporting Meath of old. It was very encouraging how they sorted out their defence to completely neutralise Dessie and Glennon, though I thought the switches were a long time coming. To hold the swamp lads to 3 second half points was excellent, even allowing for the wind. And Brian Kavanagh's haul of 2-6 was outstanding.

Dublifella, how long more are you going to persist with the lie that SR have put in €2M? Time after time you've been shown it's a lie and you say nothing, wait a while and then trot it out again. So, once again - even SR themselves have claimed only €100K as their contribution.

The phantom €2M you keep referring to was claimed to have been contributed by the version of Shamrock Rovers that defrauded the Revenue and their suppliers and liquidated without paying their employees. And the notional €2M was not their money anyway.

So you cannot associate this imaginary €2M with the current SR and continue to claim the the current SR is not the crowd of gangsters who defrauded the public, their suppliers and their employees.

Otherwise, give me a justification for the public funding of a crowd of gangsters. I won't be surprised if you try, given your record here of defending scumbaggery and posting libel.

I think you lads are limiting your options by hiring the first fella called Lawrie that shows up every time.
