Quote from: John1 on March 01, 2024, 09:05:08 AMBrilliant viewing last night on a top class man. He has really had some career & life between his playing days, coaching, music & tragedies ( where he got the time & energy god knows ) & yet he continues to give what he can to the youth of today , who should appreciate the knowledge & passion this man has, 2nd to none.
He is one of life's really good guys who always related to values, what he believed and stood for & his roots/ his parents throughout , so humble through and through.  Well Done P C
Agree with all this. I know this a good while on Pat - they don't make them like him anymore. Congratulations & well deserved.

I agree with that. I've suggested it to members of my club - the abuse they are subject to is what put lads off. Hard to blame them. You really need to have a thick skin to go into it.
I'd like to see croke Park along with all county boards come up with a strategy to tackle this.

I don't abuse referees BTW. Like I said at the start of this thread impossible job they have, Croke Park don't do enough to protect them.

We're all volunteers? That chap in Offaly was after coming out of the hospital is the talk - actions have consequences whatever someone's state of mine - the lad should've got a minimum 48 week ban imo.

I can see the danger in that. Can we ask gaa boards to delete a thread? Maybe in a months time.

Clubs are ranked every year on their performances, why can't clubs rank referees every year maybe on a survey & send back into laois gaa is this not a proactive step? Or is just a select few who decide who are good referees?

I believe croke park needs to support our referees more. Rescinding these bans such as the incident in the Tullamore v Summerhill is not helpful. Injured player banned 96 weeks correct decision, then appealed received 24 weeks, effectively no punishement.

Agree with poster doesn't like great, still savage effort from Heywood.

On another note fine achievement for Colaiste Choilm Tullamore getting into Leinster A final vs all conquering Naas cbs. I love getting one over offaly-but I will be shouting for them today.

Quote from: steven seagal on February 05, 2024, 08:53:21 PMI would say it was actually a pretty stupid thing for him to do. Is this what everyone involved has to do now, put their jobs at risk and put Laois over everything else in their lives? If a player finds himself in a difficult personal situation this year, is he expected to chose Laois over his work or family commitments? Will players be expected to put their jobs at risk to play or train? That is what the manager is basically telling them they should do.

Did he not trust the players to understand he couldn't make it on Saturday due to exceptional circumstances, but he would be available every weekend thereafter? Does he think that's a sign of weakness or something? I can't make sense of it. He's an elected representative in a nation with a world-record parliamentary impasse, and when it finally gets sorted out and they return to work he leaves early on the first day back? He shouldn't have been anywhere near Wexford imo.
A lot of valid points in this. He was a marked man regarding his politics. Silly thing to do.
On the bright side he has us looking like a football team again.

Laois / Laois gaa Referees
February 05, 2024, 06:27:53 AM
This is as hard a job as there is imo.
This thread should not be used to be negative towards referee. I will stick up my top ten hurling & football refs in due course, others can do likewise if they feel like it.
Joe Brennan retired this year - a sound man will be missed, a fair old school referee imo.

Great start last weekend, let's hope we can back it up this evening. The McNulty political situation is going to be interesting going forward.
Great to see our new players & inexperienced players playing so well vs Longford - optimistic for 2024, hopefully promotion & being towards business end of tailteann Cup for me. Glad our experienced lads still on the panel bedding our new players in.

The laois today match blogs are handy to keep an eye on matches, laois gaa twitter also do a lot of games.
Not mad on the podcasts tbh.
I read the Offaly express now & them - there coverage on games is very good.
All in all - Laois Today are better than nothing.
Just like to see them challenge the county board more! everyone has to push to create change.
€7 a month is a non-issue for me.

Clubs are getting it harder & harder to get people to give up their spare time to become officers.
I think it's on everyone in Laois to do something about it.
I'd be fairly sure there is a consensus that laois gaa is at an all time low, No leinster title of any description in years.

I agree on the leinster express, I don't know much on the nationalist tbh.
Is journalism not to question inaccuracies not go along with the status quo to me they go along with county board not to ruffle feathers.
Obviously the current slump in Laois gaa is not them.
I'm 40 & last years laois team is the worst I can remember.

Laois / Laois Today

Incorrect teams, incorrect scorers, incorrect game information, also notice a biase for some teams & against other teams.

Laois today are also pro county board.

They were a breath of fresh air when they first on the scene.
